Udupi: Accident near Padubidri - would-be groom suffers fracture

Udupi, Aug 21: Prafulkumar Shetty (32) from Kolachur, currently residing in Mumbai, whose marriage was to be solemnized at a hall in the city on Sunday August 21, suffered fracture of the leg after the car in which he was travelling hit a minor bridge at the road bend on national highway opposite Suzlon company's gate at Nandikoor Mugilakadu near Padubidri in the early hours on Saturday August 20.

In this accident, the car jumped ten feet into the roadside gorge and the front portion of the car got split into two horizontically. Pieces of the car were found scattered on a large area. Praful's relatives, Nihal (22) and Rahul (18) also were injured in the accident.

On Friday night, Mehndi programme had been organized at the groom's home at Kolachur. Praful was on way to Padubidri to meet some of his friends from Pune who had come to attend the marriage and were staying at a Padubidri lodge, when tragedy struck.

After the accident, the injured were admitted into a private hospital at Mangaluru.  Praful and Rahul underwent surgeries for fractures, while Nihal escaped with minor injuries.

Padubidri police registered a case and undertook investigation.
