Rai addresses developmental works in district

Mangaluru, Aug 24: "Developmental works in the district must be carried out at the earliest and progress report must be given in the next meeting," district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai directed the officials.

He addressed the officials during the district progress review meeting held at DC office here on Tuesday August 23.

Sports and youth empowerment department officials briefed the minister on the progress of projects like international level swimming pool which is coming up at a cost of Rs 5 crore in the city and said, "The government has sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the swimming pool but in order to build an international level swimming pool there needs to be 3 pools which will cost Rs 11 crore. So DPR for one pool is being prepared and work will be deputed to PWD."

"Work on skating rink in Moodbidri has been deputed to Nirmithi Kendra which will come up to a cost of Rs 25 lac. Sanction from MCC is pending for a football turf ground which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 1 crore out of which about Rs 25 lac has already been sanctioned. Once the city corporation sanctions it, then work will be carried out."

Rai said, "Work on Bantwal stadium will cost Rs 50 lac. All these works should begin at the earliest and reports should be presented in the next meeting."

Housing board official presented the DPR on Ambedkar Bhavan and said, "The Bhavan will have G 2 floors with library, hall, office, parking and other facilities. The total cost of the project will be Rs 12 crore out of which Rs 4.90 crore has already been sanctioned.

Joint director of horticulture department, Kempegowda said, "There is need for clubbing all minor irrigation projects. As far as this year is concerned, the district has sufficient water, but in the coming two to three years the district will face shortage of 0.05 million cubic metre."

Deputy commissioner Dr K J Jagadeesh directed the officials to prepare a proposal in this regard.

A proposal was put forth to name Circuit House circle as Late Shrinivas Mallya Circle by erecting Mallya's statue.
