7 Days

Dubai, Dec 7: A man who attempted to get a police officer to give him a new working visa by bribing him was jailed for six months yesterday. The 37-year-old Pakistani had run away from his job and was on a list of violating labourers. He used to go to the police station to renew his visa, but on the last occasion there was a complaint on his file.

“He told me he wanted to get the visa but he had a complaint and couldn’t get the visa until that was sorted out,” a policeman said.  The labourer then offered the officer dhs1,000 to sort it out and was promptly arrested.
