Mangaluru: Corporation officials raid shops without valid licences

Mangaluru, Aug 27: Mangaluru City Corporation officials raided shops in City Market building located at Central Market here on Saturday, August 27.

It is said that more than 100 shops here are operating without valid licences.

Some traders shut their shops and ran away while they saw the officials.

The raid operation was carried out under the initiative of chairperson of health, education and social justice standing committee of MCC Kavitha Sanil.

More details are awaited.

    Some of the traders closed the shops and ran away ?
    what is the meaning of that ? Don't allow them to open their shops unless they have proper license.

    Such an action should have been taken/initiated earlier. Why such a delay? Similarly many people have not paid water supply bills and SAS tax to the tune of crores of rupees. Whether MCC officials are sleeping like kumbakarna or what?

    They must have applied for licence and waiting for the same. It takes one month to get one birth or death certificate from the City Corporation.How can they expect the licence immediately after applying?Our Govt.departments take so much of time for issuing any document, we cannot wait indefinitely for the sanctioned papers to come.Matharekla badkere budle.

    One thing is strange,why they have to inform the media before going to raid.
    Do they inform the media about the hassles these people going through to renew a licence.
    If at all they want to have a fare licence for all shops then raid them and fine them but why call the media.
    Let the media get information after the raid.

    Good move by the Corporation and catching these rouge shop keepers, they do not give a receipt when we make a purchase from them. What was the corporation doing all this time?

    Every time raid and say 100 shops without license. Then half of Mangalore shops don't have license to operations. Are you official from MCC sleeping during other times? May be you earn & let us earn too policy.

    I fully agree with you. The next raid will be after 6 months. Till then officials will take long rest. They raid illegal shops popped up here and there, under the bridge etc... within few days they re-establish their business as usual. Most of the shops are run by North Indians. One might have observed, there are some paani puri sellers established themselves outside some well known shops. How they operate there, who gave them permission? Is it not illegal from shop owners part to allow them operate there. just to give an example, see paani puri seller outside Nilgiris supermarket...
