Mangaluru: Air passengers asked to turn up early at airport in mornings

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Aug 27: Considering heavy air passenger traffic at Mangaluru International airport in the mornings between 7.30 am and 9.30 am, a release by the airport authority has asked the passengers to be present in time at the terminal for security check.

As many as six international flights take off during a gap of two hours in the mornings and nearly 800 passengers travel in them. As the density of passengers is more, the pressure at the entrance to the terminal and security check up division increases, stated the release.

They just asked people to be present at time, so no much issues. This kind of panicking shows how far behind we are when it comes to professionalism and planning. Primary aim of the airport is to have more traffic so that they earn more money and customer satisfaction to retain people travelling through Mangalore. Airport also has long term objectives of bringing more tourists and business to the area too.

Being a modern airport, I find lot of gaps in planning and execution. If you see the photo, or anyone been there during rains, we could see that the alighting area is partly covered and the place is full of water. Being situated in a place where we get rain almost 5 months, the entire alighting area and parking place could have been fully covered. There is also lack of Jet bridges for all the flights.

Why most of the comments are critical about this request. What is the harm in a request for passengers to come on time. People talk about London or Germany airports, ironically our own people will go on time ( or even before time ) there because the Airport authorities dont just care who you are & what you are. But here, few of our people believe in coming late, then claim their status and connections and then throw their weight around. Also that we do know we generally have tendency to carry more luggage always. Systems will fall in place, after all Rome was not built in a day. No doubt Mangalore airport can do better, I am sure it will in some time. Felicities will have to be improved at Mangalore airports. Staff at check in counters need to be better trained for a faster check in procedure.

They want passengers to come to Airport early in the morning. But never said how many hours before? They should organize first ,before asking passengers to come early.I dont know what they would say when a Airport like Frankfurt ,passengers should probabaly must stay a night or two in Airport.Afterall only flights to Gulf countrys and interstates doesnt make them a big international Airport. They sould think fast to make Arrangements to finish passengers check with more personal and more Counters.

don't worry... after few months, once the Kanur, kerala , airport is inaugurated, mangalore airport authorities will be searching for passengers and looking for a crowd...... lack of planning and foresight to have a small airport that cannot handle 800 passengers at a time... Mangalore KSRTC bus stand handles more crowd than this between 730 and 930 in the morning... shame....

Good International Airlines like Emirates Airline, Qatar Airways, British Airways, Qantas, Etihad, etc does not fly to Mangalore Airport. They are found in Kerala and Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai airports. May be Mangalore is still not an International Airport?

If the situation at MIA is that bad now, it will become still worse in the coming years when more and more flights land and takeoff. Something concrete has to be done soon. Otherwise passengers will have to go overnight to take their flight next morning.

Why don't they use the confiscated gold to improve the facilities and have more staff ? This will solve all the problem. Have more than 1 exit open at the time of arrivals will ease up so many thing, organize the parking facility and not just have goonds to collect the parking fee. Please stop giving stupid statements - even the worlds busiest airports don't make any request like this. Seems like very soon travelers will opt to other airports if the facilities are not up to standard of the other international airports. Too many people are shown favor in the Mangalore airport - checkin or security check, we see staff escort these people like they are VIP's and people standing in line do not even say anything thing, when you ask the security why they were let through they have no answer. These so called VIP's do not pay anything more than you do to be on the same flight and most of the flight have 4 -10 first class seats which are empty at the time of booking and these VIP's with economy tickets will be allowed to take the First class seats.. the list goes ON and ON .. what heights the Mangalore international Airport is going to reach - we shall wait an watch .. but will be too late and no one cares.. and if One person question... the rest will say why do you want to create trouble for the rest of them.. where as they all wonder the same thing...

In India,International passengers are subjected to below mentioned fees

    1.Fare CUTE Fee
    2.User development Fee-Departure(UDF)
    3.Convenience Fee
    4.Airlines Fuel Surcharge
    5.Passenger Service Fee
    6.Other Fee
    7.Airport tax

To date no one know the the fees is benefited to passenger in terms service.

India is the only country where taxes exceed the base fare. But in Airport Ministry of Aviation has hung PM Modi pictures saying airfare has 12-14% than the previous year.

Are we leaving in real world or Virtual world? Why the Passenger need to pay various fees? Does government has any audit on the fees collected from the passengers?

As far as Mangalore airport, they are only good in baggage checking
for Gold.It is the only airport despite only one flight landing need to wait for one hour on baggage belt.

IF THE PASSENGERS WERE 8000 OR 80,000 .. WELL IT COULD BE UNDERSTOOD. BUT FOR A PEANUT CROWD OF A MERE 800 PEOPLE WHAT A SILLY EXCUSE. AND WHAT A BIG JOKE .. THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA IS CONSIDERING TO EXPAND THE LENGTH AND INCREASING THE RUNWAYS TO GIVE IT AN INTERNATIONAL STATUS TO ENABLE BIGGER FLIGHTS TO LAND AND TAKE OFF. TOMORROW THESE VERY MANGALORE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AUTHORITIES WILL TELL THE GOVERNMENT TO CLOSE DOWN THE AIRPORT BECAUSE 800 CROWD IS TOO HIGH TO HANDLE. KAAMCHOR LOUSY S**TS. WANT TO ENJOY SALARY WITHOUT WORKING. KEEP OPTIONS WIDE OPEN .. EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED.

6 International Flights & 800 Passengers??? MIA cannot manage??? what the heck..Try to manage & give good services before Kannur International Airport starts operate. otherwise 6 International Fights only 200 passengers will be very easy to manage to MIA. because all travelers will divert to Kannur International Airport.

It is really shame to hear from Mangalore airport authorities to ask passengers to turn up early at airport in mornings. It is an international airport. No doubt passengers have to keep up the time. But to handle around 700 passengers they find it so difficult. If another two flights starts operating in the morning. Passengers may have to take token the previous day. This only lack of planning when construction took place for new airport. I hope our MP'S,Ministers and MLA's will do the needful to open Terminal 2.

It is high time Mangalore Airport Authority start expansion work and create a separate high tech modern wing for the International flights. You can involve the NRI Corporate Fund as Public Private Partnership. The business in Mangalore is expanding and we have expatriates all over the world. Next we should introduce flight to a few European destinations. It will boost the tourism and the foreign exchange. All the best.

The air port of Mangalore was constructed in a hurry bury without future plans.

They planned for the current subject matters.

See the passengers are increased and there is no proper place to cope with density of passengers for immigration.

NO FORE THOUGHT WAS INSTILLED AND NO PROPER PLACE WAS ADOPTED DURING THE CONSTRUCTION ITSELF.

THIS SHOWS THE LACK OF EXPERTISE AND FUTURE CROWD OF PASSENGERS HANDLING IN THE MANGALORE AIR PORT.

If you see Geographically you can make out that Kannur Airport will mainly affect Kozhikode. Of course there can be a minor affect on Mangalore which will be more than covered by growth in passenger numbers.

    1. Other than passengers are not suppose to be allowed near the main entrance.
    2. One more exit point is required for arrival passengers.
    3. If possible some segregation is required for domestic travelers.

Very strange statement from airport authorities. Instead of accepting the poor planning, they issue such stupid releases. There is no proper entry / exit system. One conveyor belt for international passengers, there is no sufficient space for international passengers movement in arrival lounge. Now they say it heavy traffic in Mangalore International Airport. Waste of public money in building two road. They could have build with this money a road directly linking to Maravoor bridge to airport terminal thereby reducing the distance. Also this would have enhanced the look of our airport. Who is concerned about public, especially when it comes to the people with corrupt mentality.

One scanner for arriving passenger hand baggage, one conveyor belt for checked in luggage, cramped...!!! Need improvement!! Arrival and departure at main gate of terminal is crowded and unorganized!! Taxis, private vehicles...making turns...trolleys....no proper passage of flow....!!! Needs desperate attention from the authority!!! I wonder why Airport Management is behaving like government employees??? Time to learn about customer service and practice!!! MP/ MLA's where you???? Visit the place other than your scheduled travel time...not as VIP's!!

Dear authorities of Mangalore International airport...Instead of elevating the standard by increasing your amenities and facilities you are requesting passengers to come early. Please remember you are not doing any favor to us every passenger is charged with exorbitant tax and Surcharge. It is the duty of the authorities to give best service not to punish them in this way.
Every car which comes to the passengers has only 10 minutes to and leave the premises. If the time crosses he has to shall out Rs 60 as car parking fee. I feel designing of the Airport and charges levied requires attention to revise with practical sense.

6 international flight during 2 hrs that too 800 people on average!?. You call yourself as international airport, now having difficult in handling few. Improve your amenities and resource rather than crying. Rubbish. Everywhere waiting inside airport. While going, after early check-in waiting for immigration personal to arrive. On arrival waiting for luggage. One of low standard airport which is named as international. Shows Indian standards of airports.
