Mysore: Guinness Record? -  Man Promises to Marry, Dupes 150 Brides

Mysore, Dec 7: A conman finally landed behind bars yesterday after luring 150 brides to marry him through irresistible matrimonial advertisements in a popular daily newspapers.

His advertisement that made its appearance repeatedly used to read: "I am 36 years of age, a Government employee, monthly salary Rs. 18,860, working as Assistant Director, Dept. of Agriculture, in need of a bride. Widows not barred. For more particulars contact Ph: 9916731223."

The modus operandi he had adopted was to go to the residences of those who responded to the ad, take a good look at the bride, earn their trust and finally fix the date for betrothal (nischithartha) only to collect dowry and vanish.

Identifying himself as A. Ramakrishna, trying to dupe a woman that he was working as AEE, PWD in Mysore, he was nabbed by the Police. The would-be victim, after referring to the telephone directory, called an AEE bearing the name Ramakrishna and on getting suspicion, had complained to the Police.

It came to light after he was nabbed that he had collected Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1 lakh from each of those who had responded to his ad.

Being married and hailing from Doddamalur in Bannur, Mysore district, he is a resident of Nanjangud at No. 8262, A, IV Stage, I Main, KHB Colony. He has a son and a daughter. He has a Maruti Esteem (KA 04 P 500). He had earlier owned a Maruti 800 car (KA 09 2121) which he sold to buy Maruti Esteem.

He has studied upto 10th std. and converses fluently in English. He has bank accounts in many places. He has made all victims believe that he is a graduate in engineering and does not have any kith and kin. He has so far duped more than 150 brides in Mysore, Shimoga, Bangalore, Belgaum, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagalur and other cities.

His latest marriage took place to one M. Girijadevi in Bangalore on Sept. 26 from whom he has collected Rs. 50,000.

Having promised to another woman by name Sudha that he would marry her in Rajarajeshwari Kalyana Mantap, Bangalore on November 26, he had got Rs. 50,000 in cash, gold bangle, necklace and wristwatch.

She has lodged a complaint in Saraswathipuram Police Station. Four more brides have also complained to the Police.

    Another wonderful Hero. India must introduce stone to death in public places for this type of person. If law permits me, I would have made human spare parts from this man's body and settled the claims of those who suffered from this cheater. Best punishment for him is: clean 300 public toilets and 20 bus stops per day throughout the life.
