Moved by plight of Dana Majhi, Bahrain PM extends monetary help

Manama, Aug 29 (OST) : While the plight of a tribal man from Odisha’s Kalahandi district carrying his wife’s body on his shoulders has drawn the international media attention, Bahrain Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has extended financial help to the impoverished man.

“His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa read about the man, who carried his wife’s body for 12km after the hospital where she died allegedly failed to provide an ambulance for her to be sent back to their village. The Premier was so upset by the news that he felt he had to do something to help,” Gulf Daily News reported.

“The Prime Minister’s office contacted Bahrain’s Indian Embassy, and, in an extraordinary humanitarian gesture has donated a sum of money to help the man and his family,” the report said.

The leading newspaper of Bahrain carried this piece on front page

Notably, Dana Majhi had admitted his wife Amang Dei (42) to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) who was suffering from tuberculosis. She passed away late on Tuesday night. When Majhi asked for a hearse for transporting the body, a hospital staff allegedly told him to make arrangements to take the body on his own.

A distraught Majhi carried his wife on his shoulders to his village at Melghara village under Thuamul Rampur block, about 60 km from the health facility. He had traveled almost 10km before being spotted by a local television reporter. The scribe helped him get a hearse to cover the remaining distance.

Following this, a male nurse has been shunted out and the security agency disengaged from service for negligence in providing a vehicle to transport the body.

We cannot blame all Indians because of the biased mindset or non-cooperation of medical staff and security personnel of the hospital. One should learn a lesson from this noble man who carried the dead body of his loved one. I know, people abandon or discard the dead bodies of relatives without giving proper funeral rites in order to save money. The humble gesture of Bahrain PM is a great lesson to learn.
Hand over the money to Daijiworld and I am sure it will reach to intended person 100%. They have been doing similar noble deeds for the needy, irrespective of caste or creed.

Bahrain has always displayed some of the most extraordinary gestures of humanity towards so many good causes. Bahrain has always shown tremendous respect towards India because hundreds of thousands of Indians have given their best of services and dedications towards the welfare of Bahrain.

The Prime Minister of Bahrain, Shaikh Khalifa bin Sulman has always been a generous person who has served the Kingdom for several decades. I remember, several years ago while he was going thru his medical treatment in Houston, Texas, his older brother, Shaikh Isa, the Emir of Bahrain personally came to visit his brother and spend some quality time with him. That shows the power of magnanimity of the Prime Minister of a small Kingdom in the Persian Gulf who has always proved to be the "cradle of Civilization" in the Gulf region.

Shaikh Khalifa's kindness towards a helpless man who lost his wife will be testimony of his generous heart towards the poor and the needy.

Thank you, Shaikh Khalifa, for your extraordinary kindness and thoughtfulness. May God help you with continued good health and happiness all the time.

It is truly disgraceful for all the Indian citizens. Any one from that area could have helped that poor family. And the local govt is responsible for this disgraceful incident. Why blame PM?It has become a fashion to blame current PM for everything after UPA lost elections.Incidents worse than this have taken place in various parts of our country before but nobody blamed the UPA OR PM then. Now many are waiting for a chance to blame our PM.i don't know what sadistic pleasure they get just by blaming PM for everything that goes wrong.

It was a great gesture by the Baharani PM. His kindness is greatly appreciated. Whether the money will reach Mr. Dana Majhi and even if it reaches how much ...? You can never trust our officials. Safest method is that the money should be handled by the Ambassador who will pass on the same to Minister of External Affairs and she will definitely ensure that it reaches the person in question. You can definitely trust Ms. Sushma Swaran.

PM Modi never or very rarely comments on issues (whether through mann ki baat addresses or through statements made in public or through the press) that will bring him under a negative spotlight. He comments most of the time only matters which will focus on him a positive spotlight.

One small example of this is that after the Rio Olympics he kept praising Sindhu, Sakshi, Dipa, Gopichand etc. (nothing wrong with that) but he very cleverly avoided talking about the fiasco of female Indian marathoner OP Jaisha who fainted and became unconscious at the finish line (almost died in her own words) largely due to the negligence and apathy of Indian officials in providing water/liquid or solid replenishment during the course of the race and later BJP government's Sports minister dismissing the occurrence as a small matter and the Athletics federation officials shifting the blame.

All politicians and govt officials should put their head down in shame.so much inhuman act really our heart weeps seeing a man carrying his dead wife on his shoulders and the little girl walking with him sobbing.Really shame on such a heartless administrators. No words to condemn such pitiable tragedies on human beings simply because they are very poor and helpless.Shame on the people who watched him carrying the dead body without offering their own shoulders for help. How far away are we from the civilized world .No respect for the dead body even to the grave yard for final cremation.
    It makes me cry.

Should we thank the great donor ? Well, I feel we should bow our heads with shame at his gesture. We, gracing 2nd position of worlds most populated countries, did not contribute enough for a poor man to be able to avail this service ? If we did contribute, where did this money go ? To pay the political leaders' remuneration ?

Shame on on us ! We are in news for wrong reasons ! If this continues, tomorrow one more Manji will carry his wife's corpse on his shoulder - no other improvement !
