Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Aug 29: Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel pledged to donate his eyes and signed a consent letter, setting an example for others.

Addressing the gathering in `Cornea Andhatva Mukth Bharat Abhiyan’, a dream project of PM Narendra Modi at Narayana Nethralaya at Bunts Hostel here on Sunday, August 28, he said that everyone should join hands to make this project a success. “Every citizen should join hands to eliminate blindness from the country”, he said.

He also appealed people to donate their eyes and bring light in the lives of others. "Eyes are very important for every individual and the people who are in dark can be helped, after our death", he said.

Nayana Nethralaya eye specialist Dr Vishnu Prabhu distributed the letter of consent.

"People should voluntarily come forward to donate their organs. We should bring light in the lives of others by donating our eyes. All should get the feeling that ‘I should live for you’,” he said.

15 people including former member of Vidhana Parishat K Monappa Bhandary, BJP north Mandala president Dr Y Bharath Shetty, South Mandala president Santhosh Kumar Boliyar and others pledged their eyes on the occasion.

BJP leader Jitendra Kottary, Dr Murali Keshava, Dr Keshava Nandodi of Sakshama, P Vinod Shenoy, Dr Baliga, Nithesh M Bhandary and others were present.

for your kind information, for eye donate the person should register his name in advance. during accident or death bed he cannot donate the eye since it require much time for handover organ & paper works. I know that you always hate BJP. but we belongs to one country & we appreciate whoever do the good work for the benefit of public. different political parties having different ideology to achieve their goal. on political ground we can oppose the ideology others but we should able to identify the matters whether it is politics or benefit of people/humanity. I think you are aware that during Rakesh Siddarammaiah's funeral all political party leaders met Siddarammaiah & console him & supported eventhough they have difference.

    Melwyn,

What assures that the future donor's body will be in a condition to harvest organs ? As I mentioned in one message below, nobody knows about our end. One may meet a ghastly death of being ripped apart in pieces. How will the pledge gets executed then ?

Organ donation take places unexpectedly, by the kin who are alive. Many times a donor may be a den of several diseases thus fear of transmission would discourage even the surgeons attending him to harvest organs.

Here is no political favour/animosity is not applicable but mere commonsense !

    Rathan,

I read news in a famous publication that our MPs do not use the power that is bestowed upon them. Putting it very simply, an authority is given to them to use a certain amount for the good of their constituency. The sum goes unused and remains in their account which is indeed a shame. Famous personalities like Rekha, Sachin were among the named and our MP from Mangaluru not an exception.

This is not hatred but a call for using that easily available fund for works, like that bridge a Koraga family needed.

Well, that money came from mine and your tax, including the remuneration the MPs get. For what ? Just for putting attendance in the House ?

    Lyda
Here we r discussing about his pledge of eyes and not MP funds
    Don't divert the subject
Just because Mr Nalin is BJP MP you can't digest his good deed
And further don't compare to this work to some other MPs who have not utilized their MP fund
    Hope you understand my point

    Melwyn,

One must appreciate those who donated the organs of their kin on death bed. Exemplary deeds have been done by parents with organs of their lone child with a hope to see other lives on, on their name or with those sons/daughters met with accidents leaving no hope of survival.

Donating on paper for publicity is not praiseworthy. Once can perish in a blast or get buried in an avalanche. Death is not in our hands.

Therefore, doing good things and helping the needy while alive is worth much more.
