'Rock On!!' clocks eight years, makers look forward to sequel

Mumbai, Aug 29 (IANS): "Rock On!!", a multi-starrer which set the stage for new-age musicals in Bollywood, on Monday clocked eight years since its release. Now its makers are looking forward to its sequel and say they were waiting to lock the right script for it.

"Rock On!!", produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under their banner Excel Entertainment, starred Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami, Prachi Desai, Purab Kohli and Farhan. It had won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.

With blockbuster music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the movie was about the fate of a fictional Mumbai-based rock band Magik, members of which reunite after a decade-long split.

"'Rock On!!', which is one of the two National Award winning films of ours completing eight years is even more special for us as we gear up for the release of its sequel coincidentally in the 15th year of Excel Entertainment," Sidhwani said in a statement.

"We were waiting for the right script to take this franchise forward and the best part about this script is that it offers a platform for the next generation to take center stage," he added.

"Rock On!! 2", directed by Shujaat Saudagar, is set to release on November 11. It features Farhan, Arjun, Prachi, Shahana and Purab yet again, with Shraddha Kapoor and Shashank Arora as new members in the cast.
