Comedic icon Gene Wilder dies at 83

Los Angeles, Aug 30 (IANS): Actor Gene Wilder, who brought comedy to a different level through his roles in films like "The Producers", "Blazing Saddles", "Young Frankenstein", "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and "Stir Crazy", passed away at the age of 83 in his home in Stamford, Connecticut.

Wilder died on Monday. His nephew Jordan Walker-Pearlman said he died of complications from Alzheimer's disease, reports variety.com.

"We understand for all the emotional and physical challenges this situation presented. We have been among the lucky ones - this illness-pirate, unlike in so many cases, never stole his ability to recognise those that were closest to him, nor took command of his central-gentle-life affirming core personality," Walker-Pearlman said in a statement.

Wilder was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 1989.

He also appeared in TV shows like "The Sound of Hunting", "The Interrogators" and "Windfall".

Wilder is survived by his fourth wife Karen Boyer, whom he married in 1991, and his nephew.

Before Boyer, Wilder was married to Mary Mercier, Mary Joan Schutz and Gilda Radner.
