Puttur, Sep 1: The mortal remains of a person was found lying on national highway 75 at Valalbaill in Bajathur village on national highway 75 between Mangaluru and Bengaluru on Wednesday August 31 morning. The death looked like having occurred due to an accident.
The deceased has been identified as Shaukat Ali (28), son of Ahmed from Arehalli in Belur taluk, Hassan district.
Some locals, who saw a body lying on the highway at around 3.30 am on Wednesday, alerted the police. The police who reached the spot, established the identity of the man on the basis of mobile phone found in the trousers on the body.
Puttur traffic police handed over the body to the family of the deceased after getting postmortem conducted at a hospital at Mangaluru.
As per information gathered, Shaukat Ali, who was engaged in wood cutting work at Arehalli, had married Fauzia, daughter of Ibrahim from Savanur in Puttur taluk three years back. Shaukat had two daughters including the newborn child which was born in a private hospital at Mangaluru on Monday. Shaukat had come to Mangaluru to see his wife and the newborn. He had remained in the hospital on Monday, and had left on Tuesday to meet his two-year-old elder daughter at the parental home of his wife. He returned from there in the evening, but was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a strange spot.
Shaukat's uncle from Arehalli, Mustafa, said that Shaukat's relationship with his mother-in-law and wife's brothers was not good. They had frequent frictions, and Shaukat had told his family that his mother-in-law had slapped him during his visit to see the newborn. Later, he also told his relatives at Arehalli later that his in-laws had refused permission to take his elder daughter away. He had said he would return to Arehalli on Wednesday, but there was no more information from him, it is gathered.
Mustafa has demanded to subject Shaukat Ali's mother-in-law and brothers-in-law to serious questioning to bring out the truth behind his death. It is said that as per postmortem report, his body bore over 20 injury marks. He said that injury marks looked like having been inflicted with sharp weapons. He feels that Shaukat was murdered and then laid out on the road before crushing him with a vehicle.
Police circle inspector, Anil Kulkarni, traffic station sub-inspector, Nagaraj, Upinangady sub-inspector, Thimmappa Naik, and others visited the spot and undertook investigation.
