Kundapur, Sep 1: Opposition party members at the municipal council meeting held on Aug 31, objected to the abrupt conclusion of the previous meeting by the ruling members without holding proper discussions. They demanded that a separate meeting be held to discuss pending issues.

Chief official, Gopalakrishna Shetty responding to the arguments said, "As per rules under 1960 column 47, at least one third of the members should apply for a special meeting. Action on the request
should be taken within 15 days. Whether the previous meeting has concluded or not is debatable,” he said.

Pushpa Shet asked for the garbage collecting container at Ferry Road be moved. In response, the chief official said that it is not possible to transport trash to Kandavar many times a day and so is
being collected there. The opposition however demanded that there should be no room for collection of waste there. Sridhar Sherugar asked for the removal of the trash container near the fish market as well.

Mohandas Shenoy speaking about collection of house tax said that the confusion on collection of tax on the basis of the area of the house has caused problems for the common man. Rajesh Kaveri stressed on a
detailed analysis and sincere implementation. “Twofold tax is unscientific. Laws should not be an obstacle for ordinary people,” he said.

The municipal council president, Vasanti Saranga presided over the programme. Vice president Rajesh Kaveri, local committee president Geetha and chief official Gopalakrishna were present.
