Beltangady: DC meets Koraga families in forest - promises support

Dajiworld Media Network - Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Sep 3: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Dr Jagadish, visited five Koraga families which are living under the shelters made of plastic and tarpaulin pieces inside forest at Atrinje in Navara village within Sulkery gram panchayat limits on Friday September 2.

It may be recalled that Dajiworld had come out with story about the trials and tribulations faced by these Koraga families currently living in very difficult situation and the fact that they have to cross a rivulet flowing by the side of their house for every activity by walking on a tree laid across it.

The deputy commissioner noted that out of about 600 acres of revenue land in Nayidaguri area in Sulkery village, 250 acres is covered by forest. He asked officials to identify sites which are suitable for building houses, leaving aside forest land. He instructed revenue and forest department to conduct joint survey and file report.

The Koraga families told Jagadeesh that they decided to shift here as they were living hitherto in rented houses. The DC told them that the government will identify ten cents of land to each of the families elsewhere and subject to their approval, they can choose to live there. The government will facilitate them to secure title deeds, house construction, and water supply, followed by basic amenities. There they will get support to conduct their cottage industries, dairying, poultry farming or any other activity of their choice, he told them.

Harish and Babu, members of these families requested for agricultural land. But the DC said it is not possible now. Once they settle here and get identified as regular residents here, they can be given additional land thereafter. He said if they so want, the district administration can arrange for providing them training to pursue any of the employment of their choice.

Dr Jagadish warned tahsildar and other officials not to go against the wishes of these Koraga families or evict them. Puttur assistant commissioner, Dr Rajendra, tahsildar, Tippesway, revenue inspector, Doddamani, social welfare officer, Mohan etc were present.

Excellent gesture on the part of the present D.C. Dr. Jagdish to personally inspect the living conditions of the poor koraga community and find ways and means of helping them.

    very very beautiful place!!!
dear koraga families, the peace joy happiness what you are experiencing now, you will not get in a house in side city or elsewhere. there are big big houses same as palaces, do you think there is peace in those houses? what if we have every amenities inside house but if there is no peace no use at all! no need to go anywhere, once I met a rich man with all best amenities inside his house, but there was lack of peace.so he went for an evening walk, there he saw a small poor family living in a hut with 2 children having dinner with dry fish, happily laughing and enjoying. he then came to the conclusion that money cannot buy peace,
there may be variety of beverages, but thirst is same for all human beings,
there may be different types of cuisines but hunger is same

Some days back mass media reported local MP Nalin Kumar is donating eyes posthumous.

Why those eyes can't see the plight of koraga families, while he is still alive and in position?

What the MP, MLA, Panchayat and the local ward member doing? It is shame that the well developed district neglected construction of a connecting means across the rivulet.

If British rule was there in India this type of problem would not exist.
After the independence our rulers only know to blame each other. Richer is becoming rich poor is nowhere! this article is the example. We are all the human. 'Blood is thicker than the water'
The Administrative whatever promised should be delivered. So they should live a healthy life like others. Pls remember they are also casting their valuable votes.

If there were British now India would have been equal Somalia.
You do not know anything about British suppression.
Just read about Andaman and Nicobar's. How British converted that land as hell for natives.

Fishing is their primary occupation. River is helpful to them. So build good concrete house and narrow concrete bridge there. It would be helpful for them. Looks like they are enjoying their stay there.

Its a good gesture on the part of the Superintendent of Police to have visited this Koragas residing place earlier. And now our DC has visited and promised to allot some land for providing houses. Really great work. Meantime the DC has to provide another tree-laid cross by the side of it so that instead of making a circus the Koraga families can cross it with full grip. This facility be extended very early.

    Good observation.
They have constructed wooden bridge in summer. Now river is full.
One wooden log may not be sufficient for entire stretch. They have tide logs in the middle.
They need to provide at least one middle pillar support so that it will be more stable.

Our PM should focus more on our countries than focusing other countries. "PM offers $500 mn line of credit to Vietnam" may be PM not much aware of our own peoples sufferings in India. Our MP should do more to highlight problems of our place , he should speak about DK problems in parliament. Let the benefits of government reach the poorest through political parties or media so that they will also join main stream and lead a decent life.

This is the Bahrain effect, Mr Jeevan.

DC was scared probably that if the Bahrain ruler comes to know about the plight of the koragas like he did in the Odisha tribal man's case, then the Sheikh will offer charity and it will be a shame for us, the South Kanara people.

By the way!! you always attack Congress.

Who is ruling Odisha when the tribal man's ill-fate took place?
