Mangaluru, Sep 3: The handicrafts exhibition of the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms development corporation was inaugurated in the hotel Wood lands hall on Saturday September 3.

The district information officer Khader Shah inaugurated the exhibition.

While delivering his inaugural address he said, “This exhibition represents the cultural richness of North Eastern India and connects it with Karnataka. It has variety of handlooms and handicrafts which stand unique due to the rich heritage of artisans of north east. It is a golden opportunity for Mangalureans to possess these antique pieces. I urge the people of the city to visit the exhibition and support the artisans so that they may come here next year as well.”

“This exhibition has been organised by the ministry Handlooms of Handlooms of the union government to support and preserve the rich heritage of the artisans of eight states of north east India. About 50 artisans are participating in the exhibition, exhibiting various products made from the bamboo, other products ranging from handloom sarees, jute products to metal statues and clay idols,” explained the convenor of the exhibition, Shreerajan.

Organizing in-charge of the exhibition Raveendra, Mohan Lal and others were present on the occasion.

The exhibition and sale will be open to handloom and handicrafts enthusiasts till September 14.
