Kasargod, Sep 4: Tension mounted in the region after a BJP activist was shot dead on Saturday September 3. At a spot near Iritty Tillangeri near Kannur, where the incident took place, a bomb had been hurled at an activist of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) a few hours earlier.

The murdered activist has been identified as Vinesh (27).

Police personnel were rushed to the spot as tension spread in the area due to this incident. Tight security has been kept in place. Sources said that BJP, which has condemned the murder of Vinesh, has accused CPI(M) of engaging in ruthless manslaughter of opponents.

BJP has called for Kannur district bandh on Sunday September 4 to register its strong protest against this incident.

Meanwhile injured DYFI activist Bijesh (28) has been admitted to a hospital and his condition is said to be serious.

Hate begets hate. Kannur needs humanism and not hatred. There are good citizens everywhere. It is time they take the initiative and heal divisions. Kannur needs a strong citizens initiative beyond the two parties - BJP and CPIM. eVERY PERSON KILLED HAS PARENTS AND RELATIVES. Murder is an inhuman act.
