First of all keeping ornaments in big quantity in the house is un-safe and they even left the key under the bed to take care. Why they could not carry with them.
What so ever, it looks like some one who is closely associated with the family must have picked the opportunity.

It is sad but one can not understand, why he kept 43 sovereigns gold and 40k at house and left the key under the bed. Present days no body will keep so much gold at home, and how the person left the key under the bed. How the thief knows the key is under the bed. Why not the person himself stolen it from him home and create a story. Present days no body can be believed.
