Kasargod, Sep 5: In an incident which occurred at Nullippady in the outskirts of the city on Saturday September 3 late night, a worker was hit with a stone and killed, it is gathered. The person who lost his life in the incident was Sharanappa (39), hailing from Malagasamudra in Koppal district, Karnataka.

The police have arrested Mani (32), resident of Chennikkare Colony near here, relating to the incident.

After work on Saturday, Sharanappa was resting with his friends from Karnataka, Kumar, Maruthi, Muhammed Mastan and Mallikarjun, on the platform of a shop when accused Mani came there and demanded payment of protection money. Sharanappa refused to pay at which Mani got angry and started a fight. When the quarrel escalated, Mani brought a stone from a nearby area and lethally attacked Sharanappa with it, it is said. When Maruthi tried to save his friend, Mani also injured his face with the stone before running away.

Sharanappa, who suffered grievous injuries was taken to a hospital nearby but could not be saved.

An operation to nab the culprit was headed by district superintendent of police, Thomson Jose, deputy superintendent of police, Sukumaran, and circle inspector, Abdurrahim. Mani was apprehended shortly thereafter. It is gathered that Mani has been accused in several past cases which include attack, murder attempt etc.
