Udupi: Teachers awarded during district-level Teachers Day celebration

Udupi, Sep 5: District Teachers Day celebration committee, Udupi in collaboration with Dr G Shankar Family Trust Ambalpady observed ‘District-level Teachers Day 2016’ at Shyamili auditorium here on Monday September 5.

Addressing the gathering, minister Pramod Madhwaraj said, “Teaching is a pure profession and service of God. Teachers are equal to god. There are 6000 gram panchayats in the state. According to the development index, Bengaluru city, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts are among the three top districts in terms of overall development. Teachers always remain as teachers even when after their retirement from their vocation.”

Speaking on the occasion, Udupi-Chikkamagluru MP Shobha Karandlaje said, “Most of the government Kannada medium schools are closing down. But in Koppala, there is a high competition for getting admission in government Kannada medium schools because of quality education.”

“We need to develop healthy competition among Kannada medium schools in order to increase enrollment of students,” said MP Shoba.

G Shankar, founder of G Shankar family trust delivered a key note address. He said, “From the last eight years, I have been organizing Teachers Day celebration in order to promote teachers at all level.”

As many as ten teachers were chosen for the district-level best teacher award. They are Sudhakar Shetty (Headmaster, Govt Model Higher Primary School, Voderhobli), Bommayya Beeranna Gaonkar (Government High School, Kirimajeshwara) Mohan Gowda (Government PU College, Hiriyadka), Manjunath Shetty (Government PU College, Brahmavar) and Snehalatha (Headmistress, Government High School, Kuchur).

Those chosen in the primary school section are Neelavar Surendra Adiga, (Government Model Higher Primary School, Thekkatte), Chandrahasa D Prabhu (St Francis Higher Primary School, Mudrangady) Vittal Kamath, (Government Higher Primary School, Tallur), N. Sridhar Suvarna (Sri Ramappa Aided Higher Primary School, Karkala), Baby B (Headmistress, Govt. Higher Primary School, Sarlebettu, Brahmavar).

Many other awards for best teacher of non-aided schools, best achieved teachers, best schools were distributed on the occasion.

Dinakar Babu, president, zilla panchayat, Sheela K Shetty, vice-president, vice president, zilla panchayat Udupi, CMC Commissioner Manjunathayya, Ashok Shetty and others were present.

DDPI H Diwakar Shetty welcomed the gathering.
