Mangaluru, Sep 6: A crowd of more than hundred people reportedly assaulted TV reporter Bharath Raj, cameraman Nagesh Padu, TV cameraman Wilfred D’Souza and TV representative Irshad from different media houses when they had gone to Suralpady mosque near Bajpe on Tuesday September 6 to collect details of a social boycott of Bava Padarangi from mosque.

Four media persons had gone to the priest of the mosque who had provided the required information though it was not recorded in the cameras. Meanwhile a group of ten people entered the premises of the mosque and insulted the reporters with obscene language and pulled their cameras and channel mikes demanding to delete the content.

Following the melee, the Mukhri on mosque mike called the nearby people for help. As nearly 200 people gathered, a TV reporter escaped from the assaulters and complained to deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Shantharaju.

Police rushed to the spot after half an hour. By then, the crowd had allegedly forced Nagesh Padu, Wilfred D’Souza and Irshad in a car and insulted them. Attempts were made to snatch their cameras.

It is reported that one or two from the crowd assaulted Nagesh Padu and Irshad and recorded it in the camera.

Memory card, V Finder, Logo and camera were damaged in the incident. The group had also demanded an apology from the reporters.

Bajpe sub-inspector Sathish Kumar managed to release the reporters and brought them out from the clutches of crowd.

The reporters have complained to the police commissioner urging arrest of the suspects and suitable legal action against them.
