Udupi: Decision to privatize govt hospital taken by cabinet - Madhwaraj

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Sep 7: Karnataka minister, Pramod Madhwaraj, who had earlier feigned ignorance about the plan to privatize district government women's and children hospital here, said on Tuesday September 6 that the decision to entrust management of this hospital to private party was taken by the cabinet.

Replying to questions of media persons, Madhwaraj said he does not have full details of the privatization scheme. "If the privatization in any way results in injustice to poor patients, I will surely oppose it," he stressed.

The minister further stated that only a decision about privatization has been taken by the state cabinet and memorandum of understanding is yet to be signed. "As this is an issue relating to health department, I do not have detailed information about it. In the matter of taking decisions pertaining to departments handled by me, I do not consult other ministers before taking decision," he said in justification thereof.

Madhwaraj said that the poor should not face problem in getting free treatment at the hospital even after privatization. At the same time, he felt that it would be wrong to construe that privatization of hospital is solely aimed at earning profit. As Haji Abdulla had donated space for the hospital, the district hospital at Ajjarkad will be named after him, he added.

    @ Vasanth Raj ,

Let me bring to your kind attention to the strong efforts of Madhwaraj to have a Pan India fishing policy, which includes conservation, sustainablity and productivity in fisheries sector.

We should also be happy that he is always available to the least of the common citizens of Udupi dist., while the others are not available, even when one is facing life threatening situations.

Privatization if it results in improvement in health care it is good. The charges should be nominal and affordable, patients who cannot pay it should be free.

No doubt considering from last 40 years , this hospital is operating like a old age home. Govt money is not used for the benefit of citizens of Udupi. No doubt such a nice hospital can be operated for serving udupi citizens. But on what basis they have given it. Does this private party has a track record of operating a FREE service hospital for poor ? or in that matter any hospital in INDIA.? Do you believe they will give medication free.?.Think from your conscious. Not by marketing mind set. we know who will benefit. We know you are fooling Udupi Citizens.

Government hospitals are for poor who cant afford treatment in Private Hospitals, if government hospital is converted into private hospital then they will charge maximum to the customer to recover the cost..

Hope no one should fall ill where government hospital is converted into private hospital

Some nameless people with lack of knowledge misguide the society without thinking.

Please name any one Government hospital providing satisfactory service to poor patients?

Instead of opposing privatization of Government hospital, request Government to provide free or concession of fees for the BPL card holder , I mean for the poor.
    We should not stop developments.
We have the change the mentality, we have seen since we got independence what we did till now?

Good decision Mr.Pramodh Madhwaraj. Please see that the iron board which stands in the name of Haji abdulla is not painted whereas whole hospital was painted. There may be some politics of communal hatred in doing so.We are talking about the hospital opposite town hall.
