Mangaluru, Sep 7: A man committed suicide at district prison in the morning of Wednesday, September 7.

Keshava Gowda (38) is the person deceased.

As per details, Keshava was found dead in the morning by jail authorities.

He had used a piece of cloth to hang himself from the prison grills.

Details

More details have emerged relating to suicide committed by Keshava Gowda (28), an under-trial lodged in the central prison here.

Gowda, who was accused in rape which happened at Panjigaru near Bellare, was in the prison since the last six months. He had opted to function as cooking assistant in the kitchen. On Wednesday too he had come to kitchen for work as usual at around 5.30 am. There, he hanged himself from the top rod of the window by using his Lungi as rope.

He was rushed to the district Wenlock Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A 22-year-old deaf and dumb girl from Panjigaru had been gang-raped on March 19 this year. Harish, Varun, and Keshava were arrested in this case, and all of them were lodged in the district prison here as under-trials.

Keshava Gowda, working as pick-up truck driver of a local electrical shop, had studied up to seventh standard. Keshava was the third of five children of his father. His brothers say that Keshava was innocent and that he was arrested when he went to Panjigaru to collect his motor bike that was abandoned there by his friends who had borrowed it from him a few days back.

It is gathered that Keshava Gowda was depressed by the fact that his bail application was rejected by the court, and he had shared this frustration with family members during their prison visits, it is gathered. They said he did not look worried or frustrated of late, and had planned to file bail application again during this week.

whether he is really guilty in rape case or not we dont know.In prison many things happen .either they themselves suecide,or comates finish them if their Need is not met by him,or Police too are not always freindly.I just dont understand why Police were not alert to watch him? When he Comes to kitchen someone must be there or not? They dont allow to a prisoner to do things self.because of knives or other things.were was chief of kitchen? How come Police to kitchen to see him dead? However parents lost their son because of negligence of Police.File a case against them.may his Soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to the Family.

Dear all, His soul RIP. As I read some comments of smart intellectuals ...like as they have a clearcut evidence of rape. Hello, he had accused of rape , court could give it's verdict after some bright golden years. Now my question to the jail authorities, what the bloody hell they are doing? At least they could have some common sense to observe jail inmates. They have lengthy hands to beg money like beggars , take it easy policy is it not. ..?

We are not judges nor the police. This guy is just accused & not pronounced guilty by courts. We have to keep in mind all those who police arrest are not guilty, sometimes innocents are also attested. It's the duty of jail authorities to ensure nobody commits suicides in jail. This is not a case of justice but a case of negligence by jail authorities.

You are right Mr. Sanjay, Hebri.

If one has to read the news column properly, "Keshava was an accused in a rape case and the trial of the case was going on"....

As a human being, prima facie, on the basis of news / report, we give our final judgement on the person.

How worthy are we to judge someone else as God's judgement is something else?

Best way to get rid of hardcore criminals. Justice and punishment takes time but encounter, suicides, prison in-fight will help sometimes.
