Ballari, Sep 10: In a tragic incident which happened at Hampadevanahalli village in Hospet taluk of the district on Friday September 9, three persons, a couple and their daughter, were charred in a case of dowry death.

Radhamma (24) had married Gopal (30), son of her maternal uncle. Both lived happily and they loved each other. The couple had a small daughter, Netra. Radhamma's family belongs to Alur taluk in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, but her parents have been living in Hampadenahalli since the last two decades.

Gopal's mother and brothers reportedly inflicted mental and physical torture on Radhamma, demanding to bring additional dowry. Frustrated by this unending harassment, Radhamma doused herself with kerosene and torched herself on Thursday evening. Seeing that his wife had turned into a ball of fire, her husband also poured kerosene on himself and ignited fire. Their daughter, Netra, seeing that her parents were burning, rushed to them and embraced them, as a result of which she too was severely burnt.

All the three were admitted into Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences in the city with severe burn injuries. Netra breathed her last late night on Thursday at the hospital, while Radhamma and Gopal survived till Friday morning before succumbing to their injuries
