Sullia: Sheelavathi elected town panchayat president for second term

Sullia, Sep 10: Town panchayat member, Sheelavathi, was elected as president of the local town panchayat for the second term of 30 months, whereas Harinakshi was elected as vice president. Both of them are from BJP.

The post of the town panchayat president was earmarked for woman candidate from general category, while that of the vice president was set aside for woman candidate from backward 'A' category.

Sheelavathi from BJP and Prema Teacher from Congress had filed nominations for the post of the president. Sheelavathi got 13 vote as against Prema's five.

Harninakshi was the lone candidate to have filed her nomination for the post of the vice president. She was declared elected unopposed.

The town panchayat has 12 members from BJP, five from Congress, and one from SDPI.
