Mangaluru: Police commissioner blames Facebook for non-cooperation in investigation

Mangaluru, Sep 11: City police commissioner, M Chandra Sekhar, said that the police are facing problems in continuing with investigation into the derogatory, obscene and derisive remarks posted in social website against presiding deity of Kateel temple, on account of non-cooperation on the part of Facebook.

"It would be easier to complete investigation early and find out the culprits who made these posts, if we come to know as to in whose Facebook account these posts appeared. But Facebook has not been providing this information. We will send another reminder to Facebook. If it still fails to cooperate, we may have no other option but to approach court," he explained.



He said that the police commissionerate here and the district police are jointly conducting this investigation by exchanging information. He said that a person from Chikkamagaluru has been taken into custody and some information has been gathered from him.

Camera in ladies toilet case

About the hidden camera allegedly fixed at the ladies toilet at Mangalore University he said that the police have got some leads, and that investigation is continuing. He said that the footage from the camera was sent to cellphones of several people. He added that it is possible to find out the details through forensic experts evenif these persons have deleted them from their cellphones.

    sirjee... investigation can not be on hold with this reason. get one number or account where this message was connected and I am sure that should lead you to the creator. Come on, technology has grown so deeper and I know from your department people itself that anything could be tracked. So, let's not try to give excuses... if this is an excuse, culprits may realize your weakness and it may be tough to control the upcoming articles and messages which could be still worst damaging...

    Yes Face Book is the most irresponsible social media at protecting peoples privacy & upholding decency in public profiles or posts.
    They must be held liable for not co-operating with law enforcing & investigating agencies, they must be sued & heavy penalties as well as ban them from any state will only cause them to respond positively to stop the menace of fake accounts created to spread hatred & vulgar contents in future.
    I had gone through many boys downloading photos of girls & creating fake accounts & posting explicit photos & soliciting sex chats with vulgar sentences too. When reported about this they respond with- they went through the account & posts & it is not against their public viewers(community) regulations.
    Its time to teach them a lesson, but I wonder it won't happen as he is in Good Books of our PM for hosting him & paid journos(they were given free air tickets & in 5 star hotel stays, they were given what question to be asked to PM as well) of India when our PM visited US.

    Yes & No sir,
    just because a few do wrong we cannot ban or get off anything.
    The same way we cannot ban knives just because few kill with them, while others use it to prepare food.
    We cannot ban or stop going to hospitals just because some people die naturally or due to negligence.
    Its not the guns or knives that kill but the people with sick mind do it, the need is for the media to respond positively & stop those who are sick from misusing them.

    Sword has to be used for good cause. Any media should obey the law of the land. If it can not provide the data to the police then our governments should take action on the social media. In some critical situations it might be harmful for the nation. So there should be a time frame set for these information. They cant play with our law. it may be facebook or whoever.
