Mangaluru: Two-wheeler borne youth beat up bus driver, conductor

Mangaluru, Sep 13: In an incident which occurred near Padil in the city on Monday September 12, three angry youngsters intercepted a bus, scolded and thrashed its driver and conductor. It is said that their anger was fuelled by the fact that the driver did not allow the Honda Activa vehicle on which they were seated, to overtake the bus.

After the incident, police took into custody one of the culprits, while the other two managed to flee from the spot.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus in question was bound for Ujire from State Bank here. Three persons from the city, identified as Mohanraj, Pranesh, and Neekshit, were travelling by the two-wheeler. They stopped the bus near Padil, accusing the driver of purposefully not giving them room to overtake the bus. They entered the bus, showered choicest abuses on the driver, pulled at his clothes, and kicked him, it is learnt. The driver has been identified as Kuppuralinga from Channarayapatna. They also attacked bus conductor, Basavaraju. The trio, in addition, broke the rear view mirror of the bus.

When driver and conductor of another bus which followed the earlier one, identified as Harish and Thimmanna Gowda, approached them, the men beat them up too, as per information.

Police personnel who came to know about the incident, went to the spot. They could arrest one of the accused, Mohanraj, while the other two decamped from the scene. The policemen are questioning the arrested man.

    I although understand the frustration of the youths, they should not have taken the law onto their hands. To get a good idea on why the KSRTC bus drivers need to be disciplined, drive through the ghat section and see for yourself, how obstructive they can be blocking everyone behind them. They can be offensive also sometimes driving straight into you with very little etiquette for anyone else on the road. Earlier it was the gas tankers who now are bit more polite and considerate to smaller vehicles. KSRTC drivers are yet to be accommodative.

    First offence of that 3 youngsters is all they were riding triple.They entered the bus, showered choicest abuses on the driver, pulled at his clothes, and kicked him.Yes, They took Law into their hands.Police should take strict action against all 3 culprits in this case.
    If they have guts, go and show this kind of courage with private buses running in city.

    What is the real problem?

    Be human and have a look.
    How many two wheelers are on roads?
    How much space and time they occupy?
    What is the percentage of their contribution in solving public transport problem?
    Do you believe that more than 80% of passengers are the slaves of public transport?

    Please try to find the level of traffic by different vehicles on roads and their actual contribution.

    It's better to video the reckless driving or any such incidents for the help of law enforcement later.
    In 4 wheelers it's easier with the help of Dash cams.

    In fact nobody is a perfect driver in india. To be a perfect driver one should follow the rules and guidelines of traffic. Anybody doing that? So how can some justify this incident? ??,

    Start noticing here ...all conductors and drivers are from outside undivided South Canara. No jobs for locals. Soon entire city will be filled up with these govt buses and locals will loose all jobs related to bus transportation .., because ksrtc will bring , conductors,drivers..mechanics etc etc from non DK district only.

    I feel at some point this need to happen. I drive everyday in Mangalore, especially on NH towards Udupi and I see the recklessness of the bus drivers. they think theirs is the supreme vehicle and no other vehicles should over take their bus. they don't like you horning for the way. If you still horn their attitude will turn in to so called ziddi. As it was clearly called out in above incident, through out they will not let you to over take them.... so everybody will not be a tom to sit quite patiently. some people will be aggressive than these drivers and there such incidents are bound to happen. Don't expect everybody to obey these driver's seeing their recklessness. May be RTO or police may sit quite wearing bangles... but some aggressive folks will take on them like above incident. Let this be a lesson for other such drivers.. any ways, let's not a big hungama on this.
