Kuwait: Mogaveers Association commences in style; Ramesh Kidiyoor elected president

Kuwait, Sep 12: The Mogaveers community living in Kuwait is proud to announce the commencement of Mogaveers Association Kuwait. The beginning was marked by the release of logo which was held on July 8, 2016 at Indian Public School, Salmiya, Kuwait.

The event commenced with a get-together of the Mogaveers families living in Kuwait followed by a brief introduction of all the members. The host for the event, Purandar Manchi smoothly took over the event with a brief introduction and description about the Mogaveera community.

The logo was released by Ramesh Kidyoor and Dr Vikyath Boloor, along with Lakshmesh Amin, Sachidananda Suvarna and Rohit Salian. The event concluded with delicious traditional lunch served by M/s M & M Confectionery, Salmiya, Kuwait.

About Mogaveer Community

The Mogaveers represent the major fishing community of Karavali Karnataka. They form one of the largest communities in the Tulu ethnic group. The Mogaveers dominate the fishing and marine business in coastal Karnataka. They were the first people from South Canara/Udupi district to visit Bombay and coast of Gujarat.

The Mogaveers youth are traditionally known for their bravery. The naval force of the famed Queen Abbakka of Ullal consisted of brave Mogaveera youth. With the support of the strong navy, she could mount a valiant attack against invading Portuguese during the eighteenth century. The 150 km long coastline of undivided Dakshina Kannada district is home to hundreds of fishing villages. The Mogaveera community traditionally lives in coastal habitations called ‘Mogaveera Pattana’. The infinite expanse of the Arabian sea with numerous fishing boats afloat, countless waves rising, falling and breaking into sprays, rows and rows of coconut palms waving with the wind leaves the visitor spell bound! It is in this enrapturing surroundings that the Mogaveeras struggle for living defying the waves and often encountering raging storms and tidal waves.

The traditional marine fishing is a valiant profession that demands energy, skill, perseverance and above all boldness. The adversities of the profession made Mogaveera community a well knit and organized society that respected brotherhood and community feeling.

Fishing is the main profession of Mogaveeras. However, Mogaveeras have also taken up on a large scale, agriculture, employment in government and private firms as well as taken up professional work and business. Mogaveera community has participated in the business of fishing and fish trade. The community undertakes industrial business such as, fish curing, ice plants, fish canning, fish managing, extracting oil from fish, ice plants, freezing units, ship building, net making units etc. The Mogaveera community can boast of large number of professionally qualified people in the field of Medicine(Doctors), Engineering(Engineers), Architecture (Architects), Chartered Accountancy (C.As), Company Secretaries (C.Ss.), Cost & Works Accountancy, (I.C.& W.As), Management Studies (M.B.As.), in the field of Science (Scientists), Post Graduates, Doctorates (PhDs.) and in many other fields of study now.

In the fields of Banking, Insurance, Pharmacy, Information Technology, Aviation etc Mogaveera professionals have made a mark of their own. Some prominent Mogaveeras have contributed in many fields.

Initiation of the managing committee of Mogaveers Association Kuwait:

The Mogaveers Association Kuwait, the community welfare association of non-resident Mogaveers, based in Kuwait, held its first annual general body meeting on September 9 at Avanti Palace Restaurant, Hawally.

The event commenced with a prayer song rendered by Suresh Salian followed by lighting of lamp by senior members of the community GopalaSuvarna Malpe, Ashoka Suvarna Mumbai, Praveen Mendon Pandeshwara, Shekar Thingalaya Sastana, Bhaskar Amin Kodavoorand, Kusuma Girish Mukka. The host of the event PurandarManchi, welcomed the members along with Rajesh Mendon sharing the membership updates.

It was a day filled with fun and excitement. Kids enjoyed the musical chair and there were games and quiz for adults also. The members participated in the quiz and won prizes. Video clips on information and awareness of Mogaveera community was shared and displayed. U-Tube release short film – 4GUnlimited emotions, produced by Lakshmeesha Amin, Dhoom Productions& Perception KPT, based on the life style of today’s young generation and a humble tribute to our valiant soldiers who work unconditionally for the nation, was shared & displayed.

Suresh Salian and Purander Manchi along with Praveen Mendon entertained the crowd with their melodious songs and encouraged some of the talented members from the group to join them. Some of the members actively participated and displayed their talents. Rohith Salian and Punit Raj Salian presented a short comedy skit, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The returning officer, Sachidanand Suvarna who had also designed the logo, AGM banner, receipts & seal of the association, announced the new managing committee.

The group unanimously selected Ramesh Kidiyoor as the president. He is an ex-president of Tulukoota Kuwait and currently serving in the advisory committee of Tulu Koota Kuwait.

The managing committee members introduced themselves, thanked and assured all the members for rendering their best service during their tenure.

President, Ramesh Kidiyoor in his speech thanked all the members for electing him as president and invited suggestions and participation of all members who are talented and interested in sports and cultural activities. He also assured the members that management committee would support and provide help to any member who is in need of help.

On behalf of Mogaveers Association Kuwait (MAK), he announced the followings:

-Death Grant of IRS. 1,00,000/- in case of death of any active member, financial help will be provided to next of kin of the deceased.

-Financial help (Health Grant) of IRS. 25,000/- will be given to the members in case of serious health issues or permanent disability or severe injury due to accident.

The event that followed with the conclusion of AGM was prize distribution. Prizes were given away to the winners of games and quiz. Some of the lucky winners were Master Jai Girish Mehta for Kids Musical Chair & Punit Raj Salian, Dr Rani Vikyath for games open to all and the winners for the quiz were Rohit Salian, Santhosh Karkera, Puneeth Sasihithlu, Monoj Hosabettu and Kavita Kidiyoor

One of the attractions of the day was ‘The Lucky Mogaveera’ draw, open to all members, which was won by Dr Rani Vikyath. The members relaxed and enjoyed the Housie Housie game after the luscious lunch served by Avanti Palace.

The lucky ones to take away the prizes for Housie Housie were Laxmeesh Salian, KusumaGirish, Master Sharan Suvarna, SudeshPuthran and Nitin Suvarna

The event came to an end with the vote of thanks by the general secretary and national anthem followed by a group photo of the association. The members were more than happy to return home with a big smile.

    Congratulations to all the Mogaveeras of Kuwait.

    Hats up to the Managing committee members.

    It is happy to know even the Mogaveeras working abroad in Kuwait united together to form a family Association.

    I am proud to say as a founder member & present Advisory committee member, Muscat Mogaveeras are the first one to form a Association in Gulf countries. And now UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait & Qatar also united together. Even Saudi there is a Mogaveera Group headed by Mr. Shriyan.

    MOGAVEERS ARE KNOW FOR UNITY.
