Beltangady: Car-auto rickshaw collision - woman dies, 5 injured

Beltangady, Sep 13: In an accident involving a Maruti car and an auto rickshaw, which occurred on Sunday September 1 afternoon at Kemmattemar near Gerukatte in the taluk, a woman lost her life. Five others including three children suffered serious injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Veena (35) residing near Gerukatte Koranja. Her husband, Komalaksha (45), daughter, Gayatri (12), son, Rakshit (8), as well as Devaki (23) from Gerukatte Punkedadi and her son, Akshay (7), survived with grievous injuries. All of them were admitted into different hospitals at Mangaluru.

The auto rickshaw was being driven by Komalaksha. When it was moving on Uppinangady-Guruvayanakere state highway, a Maruti car that was moving towards Guruvayanakere from Uppingnady got involved with head-on collision. Due to the intensity of the collision, the auto rickshaw turned turtle. All the six persons inside the auto rickshaw came under the weight of the three-wheeler and were injured. Veena died when being taken to hospital. The others were provided preliminary treatment in the local hospital before taking them to hospitals at Mangaluru. Condition of all the injured is said to critical.

Policemen from the station here visited the spot and restored traffic on the road. A case stands registered in the police station here.
