Udupi: Distressed by ill health, woman jumps into well

Udupi, Sep 14: Varija Shedthi (52) jumped into the well of a neighbouring house on Tuesday September 13 morning and ended her life at Padebettu near Padubidri in the taluk. She was on a visit to the house of her elder brother at the time.

Varija, who lives in the house of her in-laws at Palli Ninjur had come to the house of her elder brother, Bikri Shetty, at Padebettu. She was suffering from ill health when she came here. Bikri Shetty said in the complaint filed with the police that his sister was frustrated with life on account of health problems, and therefore, she had committed suicide.

Varija had come out of the house when her sister-in-law was in the cattle shed for milking the cows. After that she was not to be seen. Family members went searching for her, and found her body floating in the well belonging to Shyam Shetty nearby.

A case about the incident was registered in Padubidri police station.
