Udupi, Sep 14: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Paryaya, Pejawar Math has expressed his concern towards the recent judgment of the Supreme Court regarding distribution of Cauvery river water.

In a statement released to the press on Wednesday September 14, Swamiji stated that he is saddened by the hardship caused to the Karnataka state by the verdict. “I respect the Supreme Court. However, I do not understand why the Court awarded the judgment without inspecting the quantity of water. The statement by former advocate general, B V Acharya that the government need not follow the orders of the court should be verified.” the statement says.

“All the political parties should come together ignoring their differences, find out the consequences of not following the orders of the Court and take a unanimous joint decision towards further course of action. The politicians should be prepared to sacrifice their posts and to go to jail if necessary. Success can surely be achieved if all the political parties work with unity with one aim- that is the welfare of the state is important." Swamiji’s statement reads.

"Violence is unacceptable. Kannadigas and Tamilians should not resort to attacks due to antagonistic passions. We are the children of Mother India regardless of the differences. We should act in a spirit of fraternity, with each other. I kindly request you to protest peacefully making sure that there is no damage, loss of life or property of Tamilians in our state. I request the same from Tamilians. I pray to the Almighty that the problem be solved in peace and tranquillity without causing injustice to Karnataka state,” Swamiji’s statement concludes.

It is a right time to have consensus and come out with right national water policy with the help of water and technical experts to sort out water issues between states. The legal agreement & the tribunal judgement on sharing of water of cauvery river has become obsolete and new practical solution to be worked out based on the national water policy. Similarly within the sate on yettinahole etc. consensus should be arrived and a suitable policy with the experts advice has to be brought in. It is more important to have a permanent solution instead of temporarily fixing the current problem and end up in litigation.

why? religious leaders are not citizens of this country? dont they get affected by political outcomes? infact Hindu saints are harassed most. all their temples/mutts and worship places are eyed and government tries to usurp it. they should speak- for welfare of their devotees and general public. for every talk we use "freedom of expression" and then you want dictate terms and ban these guys? just cos they are hindus, right?

    chodyam_ranga,

When he becomes a religious leader he is never a common citizen. And also he is too much involved in politics and he is using his influence to garner votes for the political party he supports.

I agree that everybody has free speech and expression. Believe me i am a free speech absolutist. But this is not a free speech issue. I have seen him in political rallies. what is he doing there?

Isn't it the duty of elected officials to think about the welfare of the general public? Can you see what is wrong over here?

And are you accusing me being anti-hindu? There is no way you can accuse me of it.

Fight for survival. Smarter management of water and new technology and innovation is need of the hour. There is lot of ways to farm and different technology is used for cultivation different part of the globe. These new modern technology will reach to our farmers doors one day. But takes time. If you think about all these gulf countries they used be desert turned to goldmine. It was oil and money utilised and managed properly. If better governance is implemented india wont be far off being better place.

1.Yes..Swamiji is right..Mr Siddu should not have accepted Supreme Court verdict..Had he not released water,by this time all Kannadigas would have supported Siddu (even BJP supporters too)..Because Kaveri is our life..already water level is so low that, within one month Kannadigas face problem of drinking water..This is Siddu's frist mistake..

    2. Ok.Siddu respected Court order and released water..then he should have anticipated big violence. He did not make arrangements for Police Bandobast..Everyone started throwing stones, breaking and torching vehicles..Not a single policeman was visible..Once,it was out of control, special protection team request was sent to Central..Even curfew was delayed..I was shocked when Suvarna TV newsreader Ajith asked Police officer about delay in imposing curfew,Officer said " We did not want to disturb Bakrid Festival"...What a funny Statement by an IPS officer..News reader almost fell off chair..

Note: Some Tamilians are the ones who create problem wherever they go...See Sri Lanka case, because of migrated Tamilians,Bloody war started.Tamilians demanded separate State. Sri Lanka had to struggle and lost peace for 3 decades..

Politicians in India do not go to jail any more. They used to go to jail during the independence movement. At that time they were political workers and not politicians. Politicians these days in India, manipulate and make money at public expense. They are not foolish enough to go to jail.
