Udupi: Fifteen Resolutions Adopted at the Literary Convention

Udupi, Dec 15: According classic status to Kannada language, action against those who do not use Kannada in administrative matters, opposition to setting-up of Hindi academy, serious thought on preservation and protection of regional culture, setting-up of separate railway division for the city, these were some of the resolutions adopted at the 74th Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana (ABKSS) here on Friday December 14.
In all around fifteen resolutions were adopted at the sammelana and all the said fifteen resolutions will be presented on Saturday, December 15, sources here informed. The resolutions adopted at the sammelana have included Kodava and Tulu languages too in the eighth schedule, they added.
The resolutions more-or-less received unanimous support in the course of all sessions of the day. A demand was also made to strengthen the use of Kannada in the various judicial procedures. For instance, it was urged that all arguments had to be conducted in Kannada language. Copies of verdicts to be given in Kannada and advocates too, to be trained to make arguments in Kannada when in courts. Emphasis was also laid on the fact that Kannada should be used in day-to-day communication, to the maximum.
Further a strong reference was made to the issue of conferring classic status to the language, as it was a serious matter going on since a long time and hence a plea was made to make use of Kannada mandatory in administration as well as in day-to-day conversation. Otherwise the ruin of Kannada in her own homeland is inevitable, was the dire prediction made at the Sammelana.
Also on the occasion the Kannada Vigilance Committee came in for a lot of criticism for its failure to implement Kannada fully in administration. This has made Kannadigas bow their heads in shame, was the complaint made. Hence they were advised to make a serious attempt to preserve the culture of the region by promoting use of Kannada language extensively.
