Mangaluru, Sep 15: Mangaluru Sauharda Co-operative Society celebrated Teachers' Day at their premises at Mangaluru store. Former corporator K Bhaskar Rao presided over the celebrations.

Congress chief whip on the state Legislative Council, Ivan D’Souza was chief guest. Godavari, a retired teacher of Milagres High School was honored with a shawl, garland, fruits and memento.

Ivan D’Souza inaugurated the use of cloth bag instead of plastic bag as per Supreme Court orders. He expressed his appreciation on the celebration of Teachers' Day, distribution of cloth bags instead of
plastic bags, distribution of loan for self-employment and other programmes. He assured the gathering of his help towards providing free spectacles during the free health camp to be held by the society on this year on October 2, Gandhi Jayanthi.

Vijetha S Rao introduced the teacher honored on the occasion. Kalpana Venkatesh Jeppu compered the programme. Shobha Rani proposed the vote of thanks.
