Udupi, Sep 16: "In the past, Tulu Nadu Boota or Daivaradhana (worshipping daivas) was banned at public places. This is a form of folk art and not a recreational activity to entertain the audience," revealed H Sakaram Pana, Nalke Social Committee district president at a press meet on Thursday September 15.

He also added, "Babbu Pana from Vanduru Kundapur taluk, Santhosh Pana from Hosangadi Kundapur taluk, Shivaram Pana from Bidkalkatte dressed up as Tulu Nadu daivas and danced on Bengaluru street, which was an insult to Tulu Nadu culture. The incident made us bow our heads in shame. They did not respect our words and they also threatened our lives.

"The members of the sangha oppose showcasing Daivaradhana dance at public places. A rule that tulunadu daivaradhana dance should not be showcased on any platform and is not for entertaining the people had been passed on August 26, 2008."

"A code of conduct should be enacted by the Kannada and Sanskrit departments on art. The religious endowment department should not allow anyone to exhibit their cultural programme if it abuses or hurts one's religious sentiments in temples," said Pana.
