Mangaluru, Sep 16: “Along with rice and wheat, additional one kg of protein rich gram to be given at fair price shops to all BPL card holders,” said food and civil supplies minister U T Khader.

Addressing a press meet here at circuit house, on Friday September 16, Khader said, “A meeting was held with higher officials of food department and chief minister wherein decision was taken to provide a kg of gram every month along with rice and wheat. This additional supply of gram will cost Rs 3,600 crore per annum. Chief minister has directed the IT department officials to cooperate with the food department and maintain all the servers and websites up to date.”

“In addition to this, the consumers will be given a choice to choose between palm oil, sunflower oil and coconut oil. Previously only palm oil was given since in some places people do not use palm oil this option is made available. Food for homeless will be started in one of the city corporation night shelters by the department. The place where food is to be supplied will be decided by the corporation. Seeding of Adhaar card with ration card is in process and as of now 7.5 lac bogus cards have been cancelled.”

Ujwala scheme

“The central government had announced the Ujwala scheme last year wherein one gas cylinder will be given to the BPL card holders who are identified under the social economic survey census. But as of now this scheme has not been implemented by the central government to our state. Thus I will meet the union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan and request him to implement this scheme at the earliest.”

“On the contrary, we will also request the minister to extend the scheme to all the BPL card holders, since giving it only to the BPL card holders who are identified in social economic survey and not to all the BPL card holders would create social imbalance. We are waiting for this scheme to be implemented so that we can join another scheme from the state wherein another additional gas cylinder will be given every year. A proposal is ready for the same.”

Ullal constituency

“Under natural disaster prevention scheme, Rs 9 crore has been sanctioned by the central government for my constituency. We would use this amount to construct concrete road from Ullal beach to Ullal railway station and Someshwar temple to Thokkottu junction via Saraswathi colony. We are also planning to build night shelter at Ullal,” he added.

Nadia Kausar, former anchor of Samaya news who had won prestigious ‘Madyama Ratna’ award recently was felicitated on the occasion.

Congress leaders Saleem Ullal, Eshwar Ullal and others were present.
