Udupi: Vishwakarma Jayanti observed in city

Udupi, Sep 18: ‘Vishwakarma Jayanti 2016’ was observed in city on Saturday, September 17. The programme was jointly organized by District authority, Zilla panchayat and Kannada and Sanskrit department, Udupi at town hall, Ajjarkad.

District-in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

In his inaugural address, he said, “This is a historical day for Vishwakarma community. State government has decided to add one more Jayanti to its list with special consideration and decided to celebrate from next year in 30 district centres and 176 taluks in the state. This would really help to inculcate unity.” 

“Celebrating a day means recognizing the community. The community people are skilled in shaping wood, iron, panchaloha and gold. The community is blessed with many skills.”

“Announcing a plan is not important; rather its implementation and people’s participation in that scheme is most important. Let this programme bring all round development,” he added.

Dinkar Babu, president, Zilla panchayat, Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, president, city municipality council, Nalin Pradeep Rao, president, taluk panchayat,  Shilpa Suvarna, zilla panchayat member, M Prabhakar Acharya, non-power, Vishwakarma development commission, U K S Sitarama Acharya , D M Ravi Kumar, assistant director, zilla panchayat and others were present.

ADC Anuradha welcomed the gathering.

Narayana Acharya, Goapalacharya, Janardhan Acharya, Vishnaumurthy Bantakal and Ramesh Acharya were felicitated on the occasion for their dedicated work.

Vishwanath B L, Sanskrit teacher delivered a speech on ‘History of Vishwakarma in Tulunadu’.
