Udupi, Sep 18: A woman, who was crossing the road a Koppalangady near Kaup on national highway 66 on Saturday September 17 afternoon was hit by a truck passing by at that time. She was seriously injured, and breathed her last when being taken to hospital.

The ill-fated woman has been identified as Sirajunnisa, wife of Muhammed Salim. She was residing near Anjuman mosque at Belapu.

Sirajunnisa was to participate in a marriage ceremony held on Saturday at Halima Sabju auditorium near Udyavar. She was crossing the road when she was crushed by the container truck that was moving towards Mangaluru. Sirajunnisa was among the passengers of a bus who ran towards the highway and were hurriedly crossing it to catch a bus after the private bus in which they were moving on Kote Road via Belapu and Mallaru hit a car a little away from highway and got stranded. She was thrown to the ground at great force and suffered multiple injuries. She died when being taken to hospital.

The woman had lost her husband a few years ago. She has left behind two sons and three daughters. A case about the accident was registered by Kaup police, who have begun investigation.
