Udupi, Sep 18: District-in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj launched the new beach cleaning machine worth Rs 75 lac here on Saturday September 17.

After inaugurating the new machine, minister Madhwaraj said, “Udupi coastal people are blessed with good beach. Rs 75 lac was released from Challenge fund of government of Karnataka to buy this machine. I have utilized nearly Rs 10.42 crores in last three years for the development of beach.”

“In a recent meeting of fisheries department, held in Bengaluru, we decided to give first preference for developing Malpe beach and likewise allotted funds for it.Rs 1 crore has been sanctioned to Malpe beach committee to develop water sports and install 15 new huts in the beach. A waiting depot will be set up at St Mary's Island and a welcome arch will be constructed at a cost of Rs 3 crore at the beach entrance. Parking areas will be also developed,” added minister.

“Padukere bridge at a cost of Rs 13 crores will be completed soon. We need to create awareness on cleanliness at beaches and public places. A jetty will get completed soon which would connect transport directly to St Mary's island.” he said.

Udupi district has a long 120 kilometer stretch of coastline on the Arabian Sea with beautiful and popular beaches such as Padubidri beach, Yermal beach, Muloor beach, Kaup beach, Malpe beach, Kodibengre beach, Bijadi beach, Kodi beach, Trasi beach, Maravanthe beach, Someshwar beach, Ottinene beach etc, which attract the thousands of tourist.

Function of beach cleaning machine

Beach cleaning machine works by collecting sand by way of a scoop or drag mechanism and then raking or sifting anything large enough to be considered foreign matter, including sticks, stones, rubbish, syringes, seaweeds, algae and other items. The beach cleaner machine effectively removes even the smallest materials like cigarette butts, pop tops, straws, plastics small shells, glass etc, which are eliminated from the beach sand. The beach cleaner machine has the capability of cleaning 20 acres per day.

The beach cleaner machine will help in reducing the bacterial level in beach sand which is caused by the natural debris and animal waste which saves marine life and prevents the illness. The beach cleaner machine removes only the unwanted debris and not the sand which helps in creating a clean, beautiful and safe beach for the visitors.

Eco friendly machine

The beach cleaner machine has a low ground pressure and is eco friendly which does not harm or affect the environment. It not only works in both wet and dry land, but can be used in the water till the depth of 9 inch.
The beach cleaner offers high-quality products that are equipped with the patented raking, screening and mixing technology.

It works on three modes,

• Raking Technique Surface cleaning only on wet sand / dry sand or hard ground
• Screening technique for wet and dry sand in depth cleaning
• Both combined raking and screening technique

I want to see the fate of this equipment after one year and would like to see the condition of the beach for the next one year. Daiji ... pls keep updating the status of this beach time to time from the date of its launch.

First educate the people how they can contribute to keep our beaches and also our neighbourhood clean and safe. If they learn this none of these equipments are required.

Malpe authorities deserve our salute for the introduction of a seventy lac investment towards the machinery that will keep the beach clean. What a magnanimous foresight on the part of all the responsible officials. Keeping the beach clean is as good as keeping Malpe clean because the cleaner the beach will enable more and more people to be attracted to the cleaner water and clean environment with focus on cleaner ecology. Having witnessed hundreds of beaches in the Pacific Ocean, Atlatnic Ocean, Mediterranean Ocean and also the Indian Ocean, the more attention we focus on our beach will promote not only better health for people but also better health for all the marine creatures that will safeguard our marine wealth that is abundant.

India is certainly moving in the right direction. With growing population everywhere, there is no better investment than protecting the good health and welfare of people.

This kind of investment is indeed negligible as compared to the tons of advantages that lie beneath all the priorities that India has to focus if they want good health and good well being of their people.

This Machine for how many days?

    Who will maintain this machine?

Where is the Helicopter gone now? Helicopter Tourism, no news?

    All just brain wash.

Better construct good washrooms & changing rooms & recruit good man power to maintain it.

    Existing ones are stinking.

Just inspect the condition of Udupi Municipality waste collecting vehicles. All are like Waste vehicle only.

Municipality giving sub contract to Private people. No one bothers whether they collect daily in time o not?

Let them give it on hire to all the beaches along the coast of Karnataka. It will have double benefits. This expensive machine will come of use to other beaches and in return they will earn rent as returns on investment. Sharing is Caring.

With the development of Malpe Beach and St. Mary’s Island, there’s ample scope to attract foreign tourists visiting Goa, since the place is accessible by road and rail. There’s also the possibility of developing sea transport between Goa and Malpe.

Instead of spending the money on the machine, they could have employed 2 ~ 3 people from poor families to do the cleaning of the beach on daily wages. Money would have been saved and some poor family would have benefited. But poor people benefiting does not benefit the politicians. Just watch, the machine will be unusable within a year due to poor maintenance!
