Mangaluru, Sep 18: "Ullal police have arrested two persons for collecting money from students after promising to obtain medical seats for them," informed Mangaluru city police commissioner Chandrashekar.

Addressing a press meet on Sunday, September 18 here at the commissioner’s office, Chandra Shekhar said "A complaint was registered in Ullal police station that two persons identified as Sanjeeva (34) from Erode in Tamil Nadu and Thimmayya (45) from Madikeri in Karnataka had taken Rs 20 to 25 lacs from each student from Tamil Nadu."

"As they did not provide seats, some parents of the affected students, who grew suspicious, went to the concerned medical college at Deralakatte and informed the college administration about the incident. The college administration informed that the admission tests were already over." commissioner added.

"Based on the complaint, Ullal police inspector Shivaprasad and personnel acted swiftly and arrested the duo. During the course of investigation, it was gathered that they had collected money from 16 students. We are trying to contact other affected persons. Rs 37.5 lac has been recovered from the accused. It is presently estimated that the duo duped to the tune of Rs 2.82 crores.” said commissioner.

Awareness notice

"We urge the colleges to display an awareness notice in their colleges so that people are not cheated by such offenders. We also request the public not to fall prey to such tactics. If anyone has any information about such persons, they can contact the police."

DCPs Sanjeev Patil and Shantharaju were present at the press meet.

Nothing surprising in this. This brokerage business for medical seats and other professional courses, under the so called management quota, has been there since a long time, and everyone is aware of it. Just that some opportunists take few gullible people and make the most of the situations. If the brokerage process didn't exist in the first place, do you think these scoundrels could prosper who cheat people. Demand versus supply concept everywhere. You see these kind of incidents everyday in our lives. Like the old saying, you will always few innocent fools along the way. Was, has and will always be.

Commissioner and the rest should know that colleges will not display any awareness notice in their colleges, then from were will they get students and make money. They the college management have to depend on the agents. All medical, engineering, and the other colleges like nursing, physiotherapy courses, etc., are not Govt. funded and they are to make money, that is business. We all know that in business we have agents and hence in this case professional colleges and also need agents to make money.
