Ballari: Woman immolates herself on wedding night

Ballari, Sep 19: In a strange incident reported from the city, a newlywed bride set herself ablaze on wedding night. The tragic incident occurred on the night of Friday September 16.

The victim, identified as Sonia, had married Varadaraju in a grand function held on September 14 at Chennai. An expensive reception was also held in a hall here on September 16. Arrangements had been put in place nuptial night the same day.

It is said that at night, as soon as her husband approached her at the well-decorated bed, Sonia visited washroom in the guise of relieving herself. She doused herself with kerosene there and ignited fire. She was later rushed to Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences with severe burn injuries. But she couldnot be saved.

It is unclear whether Sonia was against this marriage or she was overcome with wedding night blues. A report about the incident stands filed in Kaul Bazar police station here.

    looks some love case. She must have accepted the marriage plan due to parent's force. When the moment came where she had to surrender herself to her husband , she didn't have any other choice than committing suicide. Again just a wild guess... truth may come out after investigation.
