Udupi, Sep 19: As per a complaint filed in Manipal police station, a professor of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) at Manipal has alleged that he was cheated of Rs 1.25 lac by a group of people who claimed themselves to be employees of a private bank.

Assistant professor in MIT, Prof Sudhanshu Bhushan Raju, reportedly was misled by Gautham Bhatia, Savita, Manish, Anita, and Veerendra Kumar, who posed themselves as employees of Standard Chartered Bank. As per the complaint, the accused created fake email ID in the name of the bank, promised to lend Rs 50 lac to the complainant, and collected a total sum of Rs 1,24,500 through NEFT transfers between August 1 and September 3. They are said to have convinced the professor that this amount represents IT Service Tax.

Aggrieved at the fact that no loan was granted to him, the complainant has approached Manipal police station with the said complaint. The police are preparing to investigate the case.
