Mangaluru, Sep 20: Villagers of Jokatte, on Monday September 19, went in a silent procession from Suratkal railway bridge to the local police station, to register their protest about registering of rowdy sheet against the leaders of Jokatte Nagarika Horata Samiti. They also demanded suspension of station house officer, Cheluvaraju.

The protestors who were in hundreds, wore black badges and held black flags. When the procession reached Suratkal Junction, the police stopped the processionists from going further. Angered by this, the protestors sat on protest demonstration on the road. They raised slogans against local MLA, Moideen Bawa, and Suratkal police inspector, Cheluvaraju.

Addressing the protestors, state president of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Muneer Katipalla, accused the station house officer of treating activists as rowdies and rowdies as popular leaders. He accused the police inspector concerned of supporting all illegal activities in Suratkal area out of lure of money, and thereby depriving justice for the common people. He said that the situation is so worse that ordinary people dither from visiting police station. "Opening of rowdy sheet against the activists from Jokatte shows the height of arrogance on the part of the inspector. We demand action against this inspector. Failing compliance, we will organize strong protests with the support of democratic organizations in the district," he warned.

Panamur assistant police commissioner, Rajendra, arrived at the spot and received the memorandum containing these demands.

Convener of the action committee, B S Hussain, Abubakker Bava, Mohiuddin Shariff, Vijayanand Rao, taluk panchayat member, Basheer, gram panchayat vice president, Samshuddin, progressive activist, Vidya Dinkar, Natesh Ullal, district secretary of DYFI, Santosh Bajal, and several other leaders and dignitaries participated in the protest.
