Kundapur, Sep 21: Thieves entered a house at Neramballi in Voderaholi here which is located by the side of state highway between Basrur cross road and Koni near here, on Tuesday September 20 afternoon. In a theft which apparently was pre-planned and executed within a short period of 45 minutes, the thieves returned richer by lacs of rupees as they could access cash and gold ornaments during this period.

The house which was burgled in this way belongs to G P Chandra Holla, a resident of Neramballi village. He lives with his wife, and owns a shop selling juices in Vaishali Complex near Shastri Circle in the town. His wife too helps her husband in running the shop. To facilitate Chandra Holla to come home for lunch , his wife had made it a practice to go to the shop in the afternoon daily and take charge of the shop to help Holla to go home. The total time taken for this is around 45 minutes, and the thieves made best use of this time.

The thieves entered the house by breaking open the rear door. When Chandra Holla came home, the thieves, who were still busy with their task, got alerted and ran away with the booty. The thieves took full advantage of the fact that room doors as well as the almirahs inside the house were not locked. Holla heard the sound and chased the thieves and a few neighbours too joined him. The thieves, who were two, however, succeeded in giving them a slip.

In addition to Rs 35,000 in cash found in the house, the thieves reportedly took away 104 grams gold ornaments. The thieves perhaps did not get enough time to steal the silver ornaments weighing about 1.25 kg kept inside the house, as they were found to have been untouched.

Local police have registered the case. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs too visited the spot. Local deputy superintendent of police, Praveen Nayak, in-charge circle inspector, Raghava Padil, and others went to the place and conducted inquest. It is learnt that a pair of chappals and iron rod used for breaking the door lock were found at the scene of crime.
