Bantwal: National highway four-laning between B C Road and Hassan under way

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Sep 21: There are clear indications that the much-needed widening of national highway stretch between B C Road and Hassan will be undertaken soon. At present, land acquisition procedures are being undertaken aggressively.

Out of this, the highway stretch of 65 km lie between B C Road and district's border, Shiradi on national highway 75. For this purpose, 22.5 metres of land on both sides (total 45 metres) between these two places are being acquired. "About 70 percent of land acquisition work has been completed, and compensation has been disbursed to 1,796 land owners," said land acquisition officer of the project, Manjunath. He also said that discussions will be held and compensation would be disbursed within a few days to the owners of land lying on both sides of the road between Baltila and B C Road.

After dilly-dallying over the issue which faced both criticism and support, the National Highways Authority of India has decided to construct over-bridge at Kalladka on this stretch, it is gathered. The highway will be elevated to about 15 feet at Kalladka town over the existing road, it is learnt.

Notices have been served to the land owners between B C Road and Baltila to approach the authority's office at Nelyady on September 23 with documents. 'Save Kalladka' action committee is planning to hold preliminary meeting on Thursday September 22 relating to this move.

In 1985 my father told me, "Son, this road is upgrading to four-lane so do not purchase land in highway side but my father was passed away still road was like a state highway. I think politicians do not understand the problem because they are travelling by aeroplane, what is this nonsense, please start the project very soon means tomorrow only do not wait for tomorrow."

Rest rooms, food courts, emerganc y medical and road assistance, gas and service stations, sale of local products must be arranged at strategic points for the benefit of travelers and tourists as well.

Above all high quality, well designed roads are a must.

Any developments about the tunnel work that was supposed to take place as per Oscaranna, Gadkari etc.?

    Jai Hind!

My suggestion is, all the road construction and Railway works should be outsourced to western countries to see the quality finishing.

Widening of the roads are required and its good to note the four laning of B.C.Road - Shirady stretch. Simultaneously all curves and bends should be straightened.

    Dear Daijiworld

You are doing excellent work ! Please highlight on Buntwal to Ujire NH 234 miserable road condition

British time made small narrow bridges from Buntwal till Punjalkatte, still carrying the heavy traffic!

Though it is named National Highway, the road is even narrow then village bullock cart road, and thus taken several lives due to steep culverts, narrow 15 to 20 feet road width, poor forward visibility due to several turns, no pedestrian pathway at Guruvayankere city and Punjalkatee etc

Politics between congress MLAs of Buntwal/ Belthangadi and BJP MP may be the reason for not widening this stretch.. People say

God will not bless if these politicians donot act on the widening work atleast between Buntwal to Ujire, as one cannot be irresponsible to such extent

Shame to the local authorities, who instead of widening the road, created 4 BUS STOPS to privilege buses to stop at 4 different directions at Guruvayankere, where people require to reach Guruvayankere city by walk, as it is a place of 4 road meeting (Puttur, Buntwal, Karkala/Mudbidri and Ujire) junction, and the traffic is so much that till the shop doors the roads are stretched, and thus there is no water drainage and no pedestrian pathway!

    Lydia,

Your suggestion is worth considering but have you made sure that Henry is in his prime age or in his 30-40's to venture such trekking experience.
Let me wish him good luck.
However, Henry may consider relaxing in such a lovely weather.
If only for relaxation I too may join the team.

    Flavian,

I have no idea about Henry's age but considering his stay away from active life in India, you may be right. However, I am privileged to have joined the group quite a few times and there were men even above 60. They are considerate on occasional members and if someone finds it difficult to climb a certain terrain, mobile help is arranged from nearest possible point.

Normally we take about 7 hours including breaks while driving down to Kudla in the present condition. (The depleted road condition on half the Shiradi ghat). But once the 4 laning is done from Kudla to Bangalore, then I guess anyone can complete a days business in Bangalore and return back by night fall. It is very important for the economy that we have good safe and better road connectivity, because time is very crucial.

However, all said and done, the delays that happen in completing the work must be plugged and the road construction must be fast and good quality maintained.

But then, I really dont understand the logic behind speed breakers on the highways which I feel is illegal and unsafe. This has to be removed. Speed breakers are for the inside roads that join the main roads.

Its not four lane road. The proper description for the road would be - dual carriageway with two lanes.

    Mr. Misquith,

Whenever you come down on vacation, contact YHAI (Youth Hostel Association India) to check where they trek that month and luckily if the location is Ghats, do join them. They conduct trek during third week of every month. Its always a pleasant break, away from routine city life.
