Bengaluru: BJP ranks unhappy over party's stand on Cauvery water dispute

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Sep 23: Although they are not openly saying it, discontentment is brewing within the state BJP over the way the leaders of the party have handled Mahadayi and Cauvery river water disputes of the state with neighbouring states. As there is a general feeling that the Supreme Court and central government have let Karnataka down in these issues, there is fear among the BJP lower rungs that ultimately this might result in backlash during the next election.

There is growing resentment at the inability of BJP leaders from the state to use their clout and do something good for the people, duly taking advantage of the fact that the party has stronghold at the centre. They feel that the party has lost its charisma because of its lackadaisical approach towards water crisis facing the state. If posts on the internet and feelings being expressed by party activists with local leaders in general are taken into consideration, there is belief that the party has still room for repairing the damage by pressurizing the central government to yield. There is a growing feeling that Narendra Modi-led government has not taken proactive steps to intervene in the matter and settle the issue through affective mediation.

State BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa

The supporters of the party are also angry that BJP decided against attending the all-party meet in the city on Wednesday. They could have taken part in the meeting, spelt out their formula or solution for the problem and could have expressed themselves against the state's stand if their suggestions were overlooked, they point out. JDS, which took part in the meet, sent a clear signal that that it is with the government when the issue of state's interest crops up, and therefore, reaped benefit, it is generally felt.

On Thursday September 22, surprisingly, former Prime Minister, H D Deve Gowda, contacted BJP leaders, Yeddyurappa, Jagadish Shettar and K S Eshwarappa, over phone and advised them to show solidarity and unity in the issue of Cauvery water dispute apolitically. Sources said that he wanted them to support the state on this issue, give a clear message that state's interests are above political considerations, and help in passing an unanimous resolution on the issue at the session of the legislature on Friday.

Leader of the Congress in parliament, Mallikarjun Kharge, expressed the suspicion that the Supreme Court verdicts which repeatedly have favoured Tamill Nadu might be part of conspiracy to deliver blow to the eminent stature of Bengaluru internationally. He was speaking at a protest organized by Congress MPs near the statue of Gandhiji between Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha on Thursday. The MPs also raised slogans against Supreme Court on this occasion.

During Jat agitation when BJP legislator properties targeted.Despite the protests were estimated to have caused a loss of billion (US$5.1 billion) in northern India and 30 people had been killed in the violence Jat were finally given 10% reservation.
Around 85 per cent of the Rs 90,000 crore diamond industry in Surat is ruled by the Patels from Saurashtra, which includes both Kadva Patels and Leuva Patels.
Fearing upcoming Gujarat legislative assembly election in December 2017 a significant shift of support community The 10% reservation was quashed by the Gujarat High Court in August 2016 after 11 deaths.

In its haste to make the ruling Congress look bad, the BJP appears to have forgotten that there are times when politicking can work against you. Drinking water is one such issue.Karnataka’s BJP unit seems to be suffering from a fear of the Dravidian parties of Tamil Nadu. In the event of central intervention, Karnataka’s interests would be sacrificed at the altar of the BJP’s national politics.

State BJP leaders fear that Tamil Nadu’s importance at the centre – in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha – would place that state at an advantage. The centre also needs the support of the AIADMK in the Rajya Sabha, where it is already short of strength.

So it is clear to Kannadigas,BJP interest in political more important than the need of state citizens.

Gross injustice has been done to Karnataka and yet, BJP MPs and legislators from Karnataka are still under the impression that they are indebted to the people of Tamil Nadu, rather than to the people of Karnataka.

It is better that they leave our state and settle down in Tamil Nadu, where they will get a bigger share of Cauvery water.

State BJP Leaders should not play politics in Cauvery issue. Unitedly they should oppose any direction from central leadership which are not in best interest of the state.
Karnataka has a history of timid leadership in politics. Mostly they wag tail in front of central leaders irrespective of party. Exceptions are leaders like Late Devaraj Urs and Bangarappa.

BJP has been anti- BSY clearly said there will not be Centre interfering in Cauvery issue...!!!
Does anyone need more anti... than that? It is our State matter - it is not political party matter.
In this particular matter all people repeat all PEOPLE of the State should come together and as one should strive to overcome the difficulty.
Even now all political parties and people should come together and the voice should be one - BJP should not try to be an outsider in this matter.
No wonder followers of BJP in Karnataka are disgruntled of their leaders decision to opt out of discussions.
No one is fool enough to empty their own resources there by putting their own people to hardships, to satisfy the need of others. That is absolutely foolish.
We can hand out only the surplus when there is surplus.
BJP has 17 MPs from Karnataka. Have they done anything at all to pressure on the Center, where BJP is ruling, to highlight Karnatakas water problem from Cauvery and Mahadayi? None at all and they claim to develop Karnataka if they come to power!!!
This time no BSY\Akka and others leading any agitation over this Cauvery issue. Otherwise they are all over the place even when a rape case \ suicide case happens like in Shivamogga or a goonda is killed here and there. They agitate for very silly matters but now no BSY leading or Akka leading a agitation for the need of Karnataka people!!!
    Instead they are being non-cooperative...
    High time people realised this.

Fake nationalism, fake protectors of cow, fake protectors of hindus...If BJP Karnataka has guts then resign from parliament against partiality by central government. Modi Government influenced decision on Cauvery water dispute in favour of Tamilnadu just for political gains. BJP took Karnataka people for granted who gave them 17/18 MP's.
