Mangaluru, Sep 23: The two-day national level inter collegiate fest ‘Bequest’ culminated on a grand note with Besant Evening College emerging as the winners of the fest while Bhuvanendra College, Karkala the runners up on Friday September 23.
In the valedictory ceremony held in the college premises the dignitaries handed over the prizes to the winners.
Shyamsunder Kamath, the secretary of Women's national education society was the chief guest of the program. In his address, he said, “The theme of the program ‘Utopia’ leads to unity in diversity as it is coined from the ancient Indian culture. Because of Utopia all of us have become leaders in one or the other way. I call upon every student to be successful in their life. And this success must be self convincing and not measured by others.”
Speaking on the occasion, the deputy general manager of Union Bank Rajashree said, “Education empowers people. Hence the bank is happy to be associated with the fest as co-sponsors.”
Manel Annappa Nayak, the vice president, Women's national education society presided over the function. He said, “Students have organised this fest in a systematic manner and with the words of the participants we feel that the fest was a successful one.”
The fest comprised of 16 various events; Ice breaker, finance, human resource, marketing, Bhavageethabhinaya, web-designing, vegetable carving, food distraction quiz, Indian folk dance, street play, pencil sketching, ad parody, slogan presentation, Harappa clay moulding and traditional costume display.
As many as 16 colleges participated in the fest.
Inaugural programme
Advocate and correspondent of Besant English School, was the guest of honour for inaugural programme.
Inaugurating the two-day fest, he said, “Everyone is blessed with different talents, and each person is unique. It is the duty of an individual to recognize the talent within him or her and use it for the good of all. Education institutions promote all round development of students by conducting competition.”
Recalling his student days in Besant Evening College, he said, “The spirit of young people was put in right direction by his Alma meter. The students win the trophies to decorate showcases in college but the confidence and learning they win by participating in competitions remains eternally with the individuals.”
Sathish Bhat unveiled the trophies to be given away to winners and runners up of the event.
Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy, President of Women's National Education Society, presided over the function.
In his presidential address he informed that the College organizes ‘Bequest’ annually, with a view to develop organizing skills, capacity building and enhancing peer understanding of the students’ community of this part who will be the citizens of tomorrow. He wished well to all participants.
The principal of Besant Women’s College, Dr Sathish Kumar Shetty welcomed the gathering earlier. He said, “‘Utopia’ is a definition for perfection in every aspect which must be desired, achieved and lived. A perfect society is a reflection of a complete utilization of human power. Hence, the fest is organized under this theme to bring out the best in the students.”
