Udupi: Bhaskar murder- New person comes into picture, more details gathered

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Sep 25: The criminal investigation department (CID) team which has been investigating murder of entrepreneur from here,Bhaskar Shetty, about one and half months back, has succeeded in achieving more clarity on what had happened on the fateful day on which Shetty was allegedly murdered by his wife and son.

The team, it is said, has got information that Niranjan Bhat had spoken over cellphone to a person from Nandalike, who is currently staying at Mumbai, and tried to convince him to confess to the crime. He also offered money, flat and other valuables if the person concerned, identified as Sathish Poojary, agreed to take responsibility for this murder. The CID police, who found out Sathish Poojary's whereabouts at Mumabi, brought him here, and recorded his statement in the presence of the judicial magistrate on Friday, it is gathered. The statement was made in the presence of judge of the second additional JMFC court here, Zarifa Banu.

The investigating team has found that the accused had made all out efforts to hoodwink them in several ways including about disposal of mortal remains and rod used for murder. The team is yet to get report on whether the bones recovered from rivulet belonged to Bhaskar Shetty.

The team is now almost certain that the body of Bhaskar Shetty was burnt at the Homa Kunda at Nandalike. It is believed that the remains were thrown in different rivulets as Nirajnjan Bhat, who knew some astrology and other things, expressed the belief that discharge of remains in different bodies rids the concerned from the possibility of getting haunted by the ghost of the person. They perhaps chose to throw things into flowing water as objects get washed away without a trace, and during monsoon months rivulets in coast flow with full force.

Advocate for the accused, who had promised to provide high court order copy which reportedly ruled against giving Rajeshwari Shetty to CID custody henceforth, failed to do so even on Saturday. The judge, who had fixed September 24 for hearing, posted the matter to October 3, duly asking the concerned to furnish high court order copy then.

The bail application moved by the two persons related to the case who have been accused of destroying evidence came up for hearing, and public prosecutor, Shanti Bai, raised objections to them. The applications were moved in district and sessions court by advocate, Y Vikram Hegde. The court has set September 27 for arguments by the prosecution.
