Bantwal, Sep 25: In a rare incident, a pregnant woman in between her labour pain successfully delivered a baby girl in the ambulance with assistance from Raksha Kavacha staff when the vehicle reached Farangipet on Friday, September 24.

‘108’ Raksha Kavacha ambulance was on its way to Mangaluru from Puttur blaring siren taking pregnant woman Susheela Mardhala in labour pains. Her husband too was accompanying her in the ambulance. When they reached Mani, the highway was blocked as a lorry had toppled on the road.

Shivanna, the driver of the ambulance drove the ambulance without losing hope though they were delayed by 40 minutes. While the ambulance was at Farangipet, the woman experienced labour pain again.

Staff nurse Manjunath did not panic. He asked the couple not to worry and instilled confidence in pregnant woman. Then he successfully conducted the delivery in few minutes.

Shivanna and Manjunath admitted the mother and the child to Lady Goshen hospital in Mangaluru later at night and returned home with joy.
