Mangaluru: Traffic Wardens Squad celebrates 1st anniversary with vehicle 'Jatha'

Mangaluru, Sep 26: To mark the first anniversary of the launch of Traffic Wardens Squad (TWS), the traffic wardens vehicle Jatha was flagged off at the Kankanady premises here on Monday September 26.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sandeep Patil flagged off the Jatha to mark the traffic wardens day.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, “To reduce the burden on traffic police, traffic wardens squad led by Joe Gonsalves was launched. The squad is rendering excellent service in controlling the traffic. We thank them for their service. To mark the first anniversary of the traffic warden service, we have organised the vehicle Jatha and the road safety week (26 September to October 2) which will spread the message of road safety measures to be practised while using the road. I call upon every commuter to follow the road safety rules.”

Traffic ACP Thilak Chandra, traffic warden squad leader Joe Gonsalves, traffic police personnel and others were present on the occasion.

The Jatha culminated at commissioner’s office.

The Traffic Wardens Squad (TWS), an initiative of 95 year old Joe Gonsalves was launched on October 2, 2015 at Police commissioner’s office.

The organization is set up with the following aims and objectives:

- To make vehicle drivers aware of their responsibilities in respect of road rules
- To conduct road safety and traffic education campaigns in collaboration with the traffic police for the benefit of motorists, pedestrians and school children
- To assist the traffic police in directing and regulating the vehicular and pedestrian traffic, whenever requested upon to do so
- To collect or formulate suggestions for improvement of traffic and forward the same to the higher authorities
- To report traffic violations, whenever noticed to the traffic police
- To assist the traffic police department in any other activities like organizing special drives
- To organize traffic education campaigns and traffic training camps for school children in association with the traffic police

    People of mangalore n India are so jobless I instead of supporting for a better cause they see the negative point
    No one are der front to handle the traffic but no to comment on false it's a time to be illetrae people whic comment such negative way so tat we understand the right cause , ' for the kind info jeep are ment for fancy vechile we're it can drive at the speed of 20 not more Thn tat ? Try to see the cause n support rather Thn bothering at other matters

    A wonderful public service initiative launched by Mr. Joe Gonsalves & his team of dedicated volunteers will be completing an eventful year.

    The main thought in their minds was to show the need and importance of public involvement and participation in inculcating/improving traffic discipline, in a basically indisciplined setup.

    The services of this enthusiastic team really needs to be appreciated and supported by members of the commuting public, in the interests of a smooth, accident-free, tension-free commuting environment.

    A good beginning has been made towards a 'Smarter Mangaluru'.

    Joe Gonsalves and his team are doing laudable work.But, they have their limitations in terms of number of people who can join this movement and the amount of time they can spare for this public service.
    But, the authorities concerned can do much by setting up the infrastructure for the smooth and safe movement of traffic and pedestrians.for this they can also monitor and respond to public grievances and suggestions in the media or even directly to them by concerned , vigilant citizens.
    One point is the steel road barriers, well meant initially, being haphazardly placed or not placed where needed.
    I had written to the traffic police that two accident-prone spots in Bondel - between Daijiworld office and the church gate and the junction of Pachanady road and airport road - are high traffic hazard points and need to have suitable barriers. I was told that it would be on the agenda for action for the next meeting of the concerned group. months have passed and nothing has happened.

    Why are Jeep Drivers without a seat belt? Doesn't that send a wrong signal to public.!

    Congratulations to Mr. Joe Gonsalves and his team of traffic wardens for their dedication and commitment to help the traffic police is managing smooth flow of traffic in and around Mangaluru. If Mr.Joe at his age can lead such a initiative, I am sure we all can provide some of our time to support this great initiative to streamline traffic in our home town. Kudos to all those who have joined him in this great initiative but he definitely needs many more volunteers.

    That was the first thing I noticed..why no seat belts worn by the two open jeep drivers?? (To make vehicle drivers aware of their responsibilities in respect of road rules) - this rule not followed and inspite of driving around the Wardens.

    This is the road show , which was done to aware the people. N for the kind info it is the fancy jeep
    It does Nt have nth so it's called open if I go to agree with u r point Thn I had to wear helmet also to aware it , it is not the vechile which we drive it's a fancy jeep for the kind off
