Mangaluru: Expert PU College Valachil holds 'Edu-Path' career guidance programme

Mangaluru, Sep 30: 'Edu-Path: Career guidance programme – 2016' was held at Expert PU College Campus, Valachil. This programme, an annual feature of Expert since 1992, aims to provide the students comprehensive and up-to-date information on the full range of options in higher education in order to develop their career management and employability skills.

Dr M Shantharama Shetty, pro-chancellor, Nitte University, here inaugurated the programme. Dr Shetty began his inaugural address by recollecting his long association with the chairman and admired his tenacity in building the great institution - Expert. Using the analogy of a journey, he averred that education need not be confined to one destination as there are many paths. Citing diverse examples, anecdotes and stories, he urged the students to develop the all-round qualities inherent in them, as ordinary things have no place in the competitive world. He advised the students to brace themselves for the tough competition in life, because competition brings out the best in us. He felt that students need to cultivate a positive outlook about failures, so that they continue to dream and pursue them.

The guest of honour for the day, Dr S M Shivaprakash, director of extension, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar in his rousing speech, stressed the importance of self confidence amongst students. He shared motivating stories from the lives of Swami Vivekananda and Saint Panini to inspire the students.

Professor Narendra L Nayak, chairman of Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation, presided over the programme. He observed that career guidance programme is important for II PUC students as it helps them fine tune their future plans and expand the vista of their career options. Professor Nayak asserted that students at Expert receive the right orientation well in advance and pursue various courses without any hassles. Reiterating Dr Shantharama Shetty's view that competition is inevitable, he counselled the students to view competition as an opportunity to prove to themselves that they are the best. He also instructed them not to get bogged down by failure as it helps them introspect whether they are on the right path or not.

Professor Narendra L Nayak, chairman, Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation and Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-chairperson, Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation presented mementos to the guests and resource persons.

Dr N K Vijayan, principal of Expert PU College, Valachil welcomed the gathering while professor Ramachandra Bhat, principal of Expert PU College, Kodialbail delivered the vote of thanks.

Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-vhairperson, Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation, here; Ankush N Nayak, alumnus, Expert PU College; Dr K R Kamath, dean, electronics & communication department, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil; Dr Jagannath Nayak, professor, department of metallurgical & engineering, NITK, Surathkal; professor Harish Bhat, vice-principal, Ramakrishna PU College, in the city and Ustad Rafique Khan, trustee, Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation, here graced the inaugural ceremony.

The inaugural ceremony was followed by 7 sessions wherein eminent academicians made presentations and interacted with students.

Professor Harish Bhat, vice-principal, Ramakrishna PU College, here presented the first session titled 'How to prepare for NEET / JEE / CET Examinations'.

Dr Jagannath Nayak, professor, department of metallurgical & materials engineering, NITK, Surathkal presented the second session titled 'Admission into NITs & IITs'.

Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-chairperson, Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation, here presented the third session titled 'How to choose an Engineering / Medical College'.

Dr P Premanand Shenoy, chief consultant and managing partner of Roy & Shenoy consultant civil engineer, Roy & Shenoy, in the city presented the fourth session titled 'Civil Engineering & Architecture'.

Dr M Mohan Pai, professor of medicine, KMC, here presented the fifth session titled 'Medical Practice as a Profession'.

Dr S M Shivaprakash, director of extension, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar presented the sixth session titled 'Scope for Agricultural / Veterinary Science, Horticulture & Fisheries'.

Ankush N Nayak, alumnus, Expert Pre-University College & Alumnus, University of Arizona, USA presented the seventh session titled 'Engineering Stream - Other Branches'.

Rakshith M R physics faculty and programme director of 'Edu-Path 2016'
co-ordinated the event.

Sheryl Florence D'Souza, Druthi V Hegde and Pruthvi, faculty members of the chemistry department compered the programme.
