Mangaluru: Nearly 200 workers fall sick after eating head of fish

Mangaluru, Oct 1: Nearly 200 workers from Baraka Fish factory and some residents of Natekal and Ullal are reported sick after eating the head portion of a particular fish called  as 'Mutte' among local people.

The affected people are admitted to hospitals in Deralakatte. Four people from a house are said to be seriously ill.

Nearly 200 workers from Fish Mill in Ullal had fallen sick after eating meal on Friday night. Most of them had had pulling sensation in their hands and legs as well as diarrhea. 

As there is scarcity of beds in the hospital, several girls and young men have come back after getting treated as out-patients in various hospitals in Thokkottu and Deralakatte.

Four members of a family in Natekal Urumani who fell sick after buying fish from Mangaluru dock and consuming it are also getting treatment in the ICU of Deralakatte hospital.

Three children from a house in Ullal also were treated in a hospital, it is gathered.

    So many People getting sick after fishhead cosume is very bad.Thank God no loss of death till now.But People who suffered some Nerve damage etc.certainly will in future too mmay have Problem.Thats our Progress !effect.Toxic in our Food.Many may not realize the ice they use to preserve is not only water but use some salt to prolong the ice.and it harms too.do we realize the spray used in fields to destroy the unwanted gras etc.is (in Rice field,or wheat)detected in bread?certainly in Rice will be there.High time we should avoid the chemicals around in our daily consume Foods.Pray and wish all fast recovery and good health.

    Wit Industries releasing their effluents into river or sea, the risk of poisoning or toxicity including heavy metal contamination is more likely in future in our coast as well.

    Good information man, looks like this is the perfect diagnosis for Ciguatera fish poisoning from ciguatoxin or maitotoxin.

    But think this is also a sign of climate change and ecological damage.

    The article says the tingling sensation (paresthesias) is because of affect on nervous system.So this is a case of neurotoxin.
