Kundapur, Oct 1: The association of traditional sand miners blocked illegal sand miners and handed over two of their workers and their boat loaded with sand to the police at the base of Railway bridge at Anagalli grama panchayat limits on Saturday morning, October 1.

It is said that a Shivamogga based person has been given the tender. However without vacating the order of national green tribunal and when the inquiry is pending in the high court, a person named Ashwath, through sub tender had employed workers from Uttar Pradesh and indulged in illegal sand mining. The sand mining has been going on in the nights in several places in the taluk. There were arguments between the protesters and the Kundapur police sub inspector who said that the report will be sent about it to the concerned officials.

The revenue officer, who came later, seized the boat used for illegal mining and promised to file criminal cases against the guilty.

The mining had started after information from the office of the deputy commissioner that the stay on sand mining is vacated.
